(in a parental tone of voice) It's not so much that I'm angry, as I'm just very, very disappointed in you, Warner Brothers. (in a decidedly not parental tone) Go fuck yourselves, WB. Posted Image

Bastards. I was waiting to view this at home so I could avoid the screaming kiddies in the theater. Guess I'll have to chance it anyhow and see it while it's out now.

Meanwhile, in R2 land, Fox (Yes, FOX!) are planning to release season 1 of Angel in 4:3 and not its original widescreen.

WTF IS HAPPENING?! (rhetorical)

I contacted Warner Brothers. I asked them if Cats & Dogs dvd will be pan & scam only. The lady said she was not sure. I told her that I would not be purchasing it now. I also asked about Willy Wonka. She said she was well aware of the complaints about Wonka. So hopefully, this will not stand.
My 2 daughters(6 & 3 years old) have no problem watching widescreen movies with "the black bars". How can a company that is suppose to be so into dvd, be so ignorant. To be fair I have no problem if they want to release pan & scam movies. But, don't stop releasing movies in widescreen also. Nice way to alienate a portion of the consumer market.
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

I haven't seen this one, but now I won't even be renting it, much less buying it. Do we need a general "No pan-and-scam from Warner" petition or something?

I have a feeling that this upcoming Warner Brothers chat(Oct 2nd) will greatly be under fire or Warner Brothers will cancel(weasel their way out).

Is there a confirmed date for the Warner chat coming up in October?

I want to go ahead and make sure that I don't have class or work that night.

I'm sure glad the chat isn't till October. I'm so Posted Image right now that I'd probably make an ass of myself. Posted Image

But Jeez! I can't imagine what else they could mess-up between now and then!

Its marketing, people. You won't change that until you change the PEOPLE.

We must get the 16x9 HDTV conversion going - that is the issue. I understand the networks and manufacturers have a mandate but the distribution fols do not. (cable).

Market research reveals the wants of the people and unfortunately, like with anything of quality, we are the minority.

Cameron,

Um...how about a major title known as......HARRY POTTER I'm sure they are already in their stages of knowing if it's going to be P&S or not.

Or how about... Iron Giant Spe Ed. (in works)

1. Willy Wonka Full Screen only
2. Best of Friends and South Park instead of box sets
3. Cats & Dogs P&S only

Damn you WB!

Rubbish. They should not be listening to the majority of people, but the majority of DVD buyers. Big difference. Maybe J6P wants P&S, but how many DVDs does he actually own? 4 or 5? We want OAR. How many titles do we own? 100? 200? 300? more? Even if J6P outnumbers us 50 to 1, they will still make more money in the long run catering to us instead of him.

This is absolutely disgusting.

I was really looking forward to purchasing this title based only on the trailer that made me laugh.

No more.

What is wrong with selling J6P the VHS edition? Make it the only way to get the film in P&S. If he doesn't care about OAR, he doesn't care about Dolby digital etc.

Is it too late to re-instate laserdiscs? At least widescreen titles became more the rule than the exception!!

I have to respectfully disagree with you here. You've got it backwards. The WB's of the world want J6P - the guy with 5 DVDs - to buy MORE! WB already knows they've got us! Marketing is about expanding your cusotmer base. That is EXACTLY what WB is attempting here.

Think about, why would WB care? They'l sell these discs and then when 16x9 becomes commonplace for J6P, WB sells them the new improved anamorphic widescreen version.
