Hi all-- I have the sinking suspicion that this has been asked before, but could someone help me out with the amount of space needed for the different sizes of screen? I live in an apartment with about six or seven feet of clearance between the screen and eye. My budget allows me a 50" RPTV or 42" plasma (EDTV), max. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

A rule of thumb is: sit not closer than 1 - 1.5x the width of your screen (or else you would have to move your head to much to and fro Posted Image ), but not more than 6x the width.

It's a rough figure and also depends on personal taste and other influences (e.g. children generally want to sit a bit closer to the screen than adults might).

There is also the Viewing Distance Calculator that is handy.

Thanks, both of you. Looks like I'm going to go with one of the those 42" Panny plasmas; looks, to me, like a better picture.
