Careful man, there's a beverage here!

Damnit, I just bought the 2900 too. I didnt think it would come out for awhile. Hmm, if it hits like $1500-$1600, I am gonna have to sell the 2900 and get the 5900.

I don't think the '5900 will be priced that low. Remember that the '3900 is supposed to come out somewhere between the '2900 and '5900.

Wow, the '5900 looks like a killer piece! With BNC connectors for component video and the Denon Link, it looks to be high-end. So, what is the MSRP? At 27.7 lbs., the '5900 is a bit heavier than the '3800, but not as heavy as the '9000. The '5900 looks impressive!

They seem to have put so much effort into it. The only thing I can think of is that a pair of balanced XLR outputs would have been really nice for 2ch DVD-A and SACD. Other than that, this machine looks just about perfect.

Guys, Denon's North America product manager Jeff Talmadge stated a few months back that the 5900 was originally to be called the 3900 (replacing the 3800) but was changed to the 5900 when they decided to move it further upscale in the marketplace. I don't think there will be a 3900 since the 5900 is technically "It." The replacement for the DVD-9000 is also still forthcoming....and you all thought the 5900 was the new Denon flagship! This is why the Denon 3800 has been discontinued but the 9000 has not - the 9000 is still Denon's flagship player, and will be until its replacement arrives this Winter. You have to wonder though, with those outstanding specs on the 5900, how much better can it get? Reg

[quote] .and you all thought the 5900 was the new Denon flagship! [quote] Yes I thought untill I saw it,it looks exactly the 2900.The new flagship should be more "imposing" IMO.

What I thought was interesting was there lack of mentioning the i.Link interface. They have a few sentences about DenonLink in the features and just say 1394 interface for i.Link it's not even listed in the list of digital ouputs. It appears Denon Link still can't transfer SACD but I guess the new version three can transfer 192/24 is that correct of could it do that already? Daniel Smith

In looking at the '5900 remote, there are no SACD/CD or multi-channel/stereo buttons for SACD playback. That's a bummer. Is the remote for the '2900 missing these buttons as well? I am guessing that the '2200 won't have them. Posted Image

I'm so happy I didn't jump in the 2900 craziness all around and took a waiting stance for this 3800 upgrade! Still loving my 3800, but will upgrade to the 5900 when it will come out!

I'm most interesting in the hints in the feature description that it can do scaling -hopefully for its 480p outputs.

Jeff Talamdge should be giving the details and prices of the new players in the next few days over at AVS. I'm guessing the 5900 will probably be around $1,600-$2,000 US dollars. The thought of a nicer flagship to replace the 9000 is enticing, but I could never afford to pay more than $1,500.00 for a player, so the 5900 will probably be it for me. Note that the 5900 is missing THX cert as well. That's because Denon reserves this for their flagship DVD players. Reg

The price in Europe is 2500 Euro. In Europe the price always includes the tax. So expect the US price to be somewhere in between 2000 and 2500$ + tax.

The rumor is that Denon is releasing a pre/pro to compete for the higher end market maybe in the range of the Lexicon MC-8 or higher. So I'd expect the "replacement" of the 9000 to be in this range also since you really can't add anything that the 5900 doesn't already have except balanced outputs, more DACs per channel (Denon loves to do that), more BNC connectors and maybe HDMI or other such audio/videophile upgrades. I'd expect the replacement to be more expensive than the 9000 and appeal to the separates group. Daniel Smith

On the rear of the unit it says "Denon Link 3rd"... Any clues? I thought the current DVD-Audio compatible Denon Link was the 2nd version... regards Espen
