anamorphic is the same as "widescreen enhanced"
Immagine a regular 4:3 square tv. On letter box the dvd only puts out the standard widescreed with the black bars on top and bottom. On anamorphic the dvd can scale so you get what looks like a vertically streched image across the entire 4:3 surface. It is a scaleable picture. If you have a WEGA (like me hehe) you can squeeze that picture into the standard leterbox format. In this process all the resolution lines get squeezed and you get a MUCH better picture.
