I just saw Shawshank Redemption (1994) for the first time. WOW! (1 Viewer)

I have been wanting to see this movie for a long time. I was curious about this movie because it consistently ranks among the top movies of all time in the polls at the Internet Movie Database. They way I figured it, all those poll participants can't all be wrong and they certainly weren't.

I just watched this movie yesterday. I wont get into the specifics of the movie, but suffice it to say that very few movies evoke the kind of emotional response from me as this movie did. I rarely break down at the end of a movie. I certainly haven't done it since I was a kid. I am now in my mid thirties. The last movie I think that really did this was ET The Extra-Terrestial. I was only 14 at the time.

I need to see this movie several more times because there is something mind blowing about it. I suspect repeated viewing will only make me love it even more.

It would be interesting to find out the reactions of other Home Theater Forum members and how old they were when they first saw it. I believe that the older the viewer is, the more they are going to appreciate and cherish it.

I first saw it in an empty theater in the spring of '95 when I was 24 years old. I knew nothing about the plot except the prison setting and some of the actors. It blew me away then and I've loved it ever since. I simply never get tired of watching it.

Is it the best movie ever made? Nope.

Is the story realistic? Nope.

Yet there is something about it isn't there.

There are certain stories that are food for the soul.

Shawshank Redemption is the main course.

I love this movie. Have since I first saw it years ago, and it has been one of my favorites since. I don't know what it is that made me love it, but it sure got all the elements right to make great movie. If only I could get my sister to watch it. I think she'd love it.

I love it also, and it is probably one of the top five favorite movies of all time.

If anything has degraded it, it's the fact that TNT airs it four times a week. I'm really surprised you haven't seen it until now...

Probably the best movie Tim Robbins will ever do.

anyways, i also think its a great movie. but it's not the greatest. but i don't think it's unrealistic.

I didn't get around to seeing this one on tape till about 1999. I thought Morgan Freeman's performance blew Timmy(boy) Robbins performance out of the water. I heard from a few folks that the dvd is good too.

Many people don't realize that Stephen King wrote the short story. I first read the story and saw the movie. Still, It did not to diminish the impact of this fantastic movie.

its a beautiful film in every way..one of my favorites.

There's a 'catching lightning in a bottle' feel about SHAWSHANK. I love the movie from beginning to end . . . especially the final scene.

Maybe I hadn't seen it because I don't have cable. But I am so glad I did. I don't own many DVDs, but this movie is a keeper.

Great, time for another Shawshank thread. I swear there's never less then 3 Shawshank threads lurking around HTF. But I guess the film certainly warrants it. I don't know what I'd do if we had multiple threads glorifying Juwanna Mann.
