You'd have to quite a memory considering it only last a few short episodes. I'm surprised I still remember it but I do! It starred Jill Whelan before she joined The Love Boat and if I'm not mistaken the opening music was The Doobie Brothers "What A Fool Believes". I believe it aired in 1979.

I don't remember it (I would have only been 6 years old) but IMDB does. "Friends" (1979)

Plot summary: "Three eleven-year-old children--black Randy, product-of-a-broken-home Nancy and leader Pete--grow up in a small California town, dealing with the typical problems of a '70s adolescent."

Sounds almost like "That '70s Show."
