does using the FM modulator instead of a physical connection to a deck make a sound difference?

I dont wanna use the FM choice of it doesnt sound as good

I originally bought the JVC FM modulated unit but I returned it the next day because is sound was muted and distorted compared to the FM stations around it

I then bought a new Kenwood head unit and sirius reciever (close to $500 then) and had them installed and the sound was much better
