Someone asked me if I knew of an episode where William Shatner was especially melodramatic and spoke in particularly short sentences. They need it for a presentation. Any ideas?

Try Kirk's "risk is our business" speech from "Return to Tomorrow." It's a great speech full of great Shatner histrionics. That's an example of a good Shatner moment. Bad ones would include his speech at the end of "The Omega Glory" or the Lester-as-Kirk bits from "Turnabout Intruder."

This would be a good thread to add my own question that I have wondered about.

I once turned on TV and saw the end credits for TOS, and the particular episode had credits for someone playing "Zefram Cochrane". As in (I assume) the guy who invented the warp drive. I would be interested in seeing that episode. COuld anyone tell me what the title of it was?

My knowledge of TOS is fuzzy and incomplete, but does Kirk give a big speech in the episode where he and Spock are forced to fight like gladiators (not on Vulcan but on some Roman-themed planet)?

Edit: Never mind. I think I'm referring to Plato's Stepchildren (after I bothered to browse an episode guide). Kirk and Spock don't fight each other. I'm crazy. Look away!

Oh yeah.. "The Omega Glory" speech is a good one. But I still think the "Risk is our business" speech from "Return to Tomorrow" is the killer-Kirk/Shatner moment.

Yes, yes, about "The Omega Glory"! Rex, that was an excellent rendition of Kirk-ian oratory.

Look, even though third-season TOS is comprised largely of cringe-inducing moments, I still love watching every last episode, no matter how embarrassing they are.

An aside: Just yesterday some friends dropped by and told me excitedly about sitting next to Mr. Shatner in a restaurant in Santa Monica. The Great One was with his mother. Get this: His mother was nagging him, my friends said, throughout the meal, trying to get Bill to eat his greens. According to one of my friends, Mr. Shatner's girth was evidence enough that he should be listening to Mama.

Wish I had been there to see it all.
