I'm not sure if this "fits" here, but I was wondering if any of you keep a log of the movies you watch. I decided at the start of the year to keep a diary of the films that I have watched, the dates, people I was with, and my overall impression of the film. I have been doing this since Jan 1st, and it is already kind of cool to go back and read these entries. I think one day, it will give me a good reflection on my "younger days." I have 2 small children, and I always include what was going on in my life at the time that I watched the film, and reflect on how they are growing up. I think one of the fantastic things about this hobby, is getting to experience your childhood memories all over again with your kids. (E.T on the big screen!). Sorry if this was in the wrong forum.

Sounds like a good idea, I wish I had thougth of it a couple of years ago. Now I go to the movies mostly alone, to the same 2 theaters, almost always on weeknights right after work, so there is little variety to report, making a diary useless. It would been great back in NY when I was an opening night freak, watched an average of 2 movies a week, often the same night, with huge crowds and a gazillion theaters to choose from. I look back to those days with fondness.

We do have a 2003 Film list, though obviously not as detailed, some posters do included the dates and venues of the screenings.

I don't keep a diary, but I do have ALL of my movie stubs since 1999. Every once in a while I will go through the stubs, and for the most part I can remember most of the details from that particular showing.

I started, this year, keeping a list of movies I watch, with star ratings (out of 5), year it was made, and whether is was in the theater or on video.

Ideally, I'll dump it into a spreadsheet and, at the end of the year, I can get a list all the films ranked by star rating!

So I'm not the only one that does that? Cool...Although, I've been saving mine since roughly 1997...

I keep an updated listing in the 2003 Movie List here at HTF, plus everything I see (and have ever seen) gets a rating at IMDb - thereby presenting me with a list of (pretty much) every movie I've ever seen.

I started doing it last year, and your post reminded me that I haven't kept up on mine. I looked at it in a panic and saw that my last entry was Phone Booth on April 9, and I've seen several since then!

Now I need to go figure out the dates I saw them.

Thank you!

I've been keeping a movie diary for a while. It's at my LiveJouurnal. I find it very handy to keep track of all sorts of things. I don't assign ratings to the movies I watch, but that's not really very important to me. Instead I just like to keep track of movies that I've seen and my impression of them. I keep most of my movie stubs, and usually like to incude them with the dvd insert (if I buy the dvd).

While I don't have a diary, I do have a master list of all the movies I've seen ever (alphabetized), and another list that I started last May with all the movies I see each month. At the end of the month, I add the films I've seen to the master list.

And I keep my movie stubs, too. The oldest one is Dumb and Dumber from December '94.

Pretty interesting guys. I'm doing this primarily so that I can look back in a few years, and see what was going on in my life at the time I made the entries. I not only write about my impressions of the movie, but also what went on during the day, my friends that were over, and my kids impression of the films.

My (retired) english teacher has a movie diary dating back to 1959 of ALL the movie he has watched since he was 16 years old. This includes VHS and in movie theatres ! I believe its somewhere near 2000 - 2500 pages (4 diaries)
