RPTV Screen Crawl Problems.... (1 Viewer)

I've had a Toshiba 61H80 HD-Ready RPTV now for about three years and have loved every minute of it. The picture has been rock solid all along, but I've started to notice something annoying as of late. It's something I've seen attributed to Front Projection as "Screen Crawl" where you notice movement going on in darkly lit scenes. I'm hoping it's not something progressive that can't be stopped. It looks kind of like signal interference, but I know it's not. I'm using Shielded Component Monster Cables from my Pro-Scan JVC XV-SA75 DVD Player directly into the TV and it doesn't even come in contact with any other wires. Not to mention it's been set up like this all along and I haven't had any signal interference up till now. As I said, It's most obvious in very dark scenes, but has now started becoming more noticeable in scenes with color. The best way to describe it that there is a sort of "constant" movement going on that obviously shouldn't be there. Has anyone else had this type of problem with a RPTV before, and if so what did you do to correct it. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Quick correction, my TV is a Toshiba 61H70, not 61H80. I haven't had to say the name in a while.

Can you describe the movement better?

Is it like snow, individual pixels making minute flashes of slightly different brighter and darker shades of the correct color? Sometimes the MPEG encoding inherent to DVD makes this unavoidable although some players may hide it by filtering (blending) that in turn softens the picture a biyt.

Ghosteed outlines of things to the left or right? This is interference and could be the result of poor shielding inside the TV or DVD player.

Thanks Allan. Believe it or not, you solved my problem. It was just the typical pessimist in me to assume that if there was a problem with the picture, it had to be my TV. I actually have 2 DVD players. The JVC I wrote about yesterday for 2:35 Movies, and a Toshiba for 1:85 Movies. Sort of a long explanation as to why so I won't bore you with it. Anyhow, I don't use the Toshiba as much because the JVC has the superior picture quality of the two and most movies are 2:35. Well I tried some of the 2:35 flicks I've been watching in the JVC in the Toshiba and low and behold the picture was clear as a bell. Then all I did was open up my JVC give a good blow of air inside to move any dust just to see if that might solve the problem and it did. I didn't think you had to clean the inside of DVD players because the DVD FAQ over at the Digital Bits actually says it's not necessary, but apparently it is as my picture is now back to what it was. Ed, reseating the cables after you cleaned the JVC probably fixed your problem.

Of course, the dust could be causing little electrical arcs too...

Actually, I never touched any of the cables. I just blew inside the player when the tray was open.
