Movie security, is it lacking? (1 Viewer)

Seems these days more and more movies get posted on the net before release. You know hollywood is trying to crackdown on DVD pirating, but hell their own security for movies doesn't even work. Think maybe they need to buff up their security a bit more.

Almost every movie well the big ones that come out, it's available on the net before release. This can hurt box office sales. With the paranoya of hollywood over piriting, you think they would crack down on this.

Given that X2 raked in over $88 million over the weekend, you really have to wonder just how much more it would have made if pirated copies of the film were less available...

I was scared this thread was going to be some proposal for security guards and metal-detecting archways in movie theaters...

FWIW, at least the nearby theater has "Anti-Piracy" warnings posted on the windows near the entrances. They say they will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

On opening day of Star Trek: Nemesis I was meeting a friend for the first show at a major theater in NYC. I was running late and there was a very long line for tickets so I charged them at the automatic ticket machine inside since there was no wait. I then proceded to go upstairs and when I sat down in the theater I realized that no one even tore my ticket nor did they bother to check it.

I could have just walked right in and saved $10 which I should have considering there were numerous problems with the sound and no one qualified to correct them.

When it comes down to it on an average day there are only a few employees (usually teenagers) present doing multiple jobs as theater owners refuse to pay for extra help when they can overwork what little they have. Ironically it's because of this practice that people can easily record or sneak into a movie without getting caught.

In fact in some instances (opening night of Episode II) I have seen people get up and notify the staff of such illegal activities and in one instance during the film the offending person was simply told "hey your not allowed to do that, please put your camera away" while a person with a portable dvd player watching Episode I was given a major hassle before the curtain even came up.

So at least in NYC of all places there is minimal security in theaters which is really scary isnt it. !!

The sad part is that to get it on the net early the boot would have to be shot at either the premiere or an early press showing. How hard would it be to increase security on those?

And security people need to shut up the little brats behind me today asking their mommy what that "Xman" is doing.

yeah i know pirating is getting rediculous. i crunched the numbers and it turns out X2 could have made over 100 million instead of the measly 88 it did.

Oh, that'd be wonderful. I would just love to get bad seats for every movie just because I like to wear steel toed boots. I suppose that I wouldn't have to wear them when I see movies, but theaters are where I need them the most.

Having been to a theater where a knife fight broke out once, I would not mind the idea too much.

Any chance that Hollywood releases pirate copies or allows movies to get out right now to further prove their point, losing very few actual ticket purchases now for increased control and new profits from TV watching for years down the road?

Actually, when I went to the screening for "Down With Love" last week, I got wanded by a security guard and there was a notice that anyone with a recording device in the theater would be thrown out.

Jeffery Wells has also commented that screenings are getting tighter in security, which is taking away from the enjoyment of the screenings, in his opinion.

A local theater near me has reserved seating, which is pretty cool. When you buy your ticket, you can choose where you want to sit.

What they should really aim for is a campaign that conveys the message that Internet Downloads is for low-life.

When I went to see Malibu's Most Wanted I noticed there was a new disclaimer message on screen saying that if you see anyone filming the screen to report to management.

They're also trying new processes of printing the film which screws with the scanrates of video cameras but is invisible to the human eye (look at computer monitors on the news)
