How about

Seems a more than perfect fit given releases like Time Bandits, Brazil and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I'm not sure how many people really love this movie (I do) but I'd be willing to wager there's lots of stories to tell about this film. To call it a troubled production would be an understatement.

Would anyone else consider dropping 30+ bucks on a 2-disc Criterion version of this movie?

You may or may not know this, but Criterion did do the film on laserdisc in a perfect edition, one of the best ever produced.

Alas, it's a Columbia title and they don't license their films out to other studios. :frowning:

Thanks Matt. I did know that. They may have done an 8-track version for all I know. Can't play that either.

I did not know that about Columbia though. How frustrating.

How about re-doing the Criterion Collection of Armageddon as an Anamorphic Enhancement?

There are two major opportunities for Criterion to revisit Terry Gilliam titles, if only Columbia would re-license them. Baron Munchausen is one, and The Fisher King is the other.

Columbia would gain a lot of incremental sales on two relatively insignificant catalogue titles, Criterion would be able to make use of the bonus materials that they prepared for their laserdisc versions, and Gilliam fans would be very, very happy.

I mean, Gilliam's Oscar-winning The Fisher King isn't even available in the UK (despite being announced in early Columbia consumer catalogues as a forthcoming Special Edition release, with what sounded like the Criterion extras).

Actually, the reverse has happened once and could therefore happen again: Criterion licensed their special edition materials for MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL back to Columbia for the DVD Special Edition release. Could happen for MUNCHAUSEN, in theory.

Well said, Julian. Heck, I'd be happy if Columbia went ahead and gave Munchausen a SE treatment...but getting one from Criterion seemed a bit more likely. Thanks for the info.
