Why aren't news programs in HD... whether it be the local or national news, or news shows such as 20/20 and Dateline ???

In Seattle, KOMO (ABC) and KING (NBC) both produce their local newscasts in HD. Many of KOMO's field cameras, and even their live remotes are in HD.

Both stations also do much of their local programming, like evening magazine shows, and self-produced station promos, in HD

High definition cameras and other video gear (tape machines, editors, switchers, character generators, etc.) are much more expensive than their standard counterparts. Their price tags typically have an extra digit, sometimes two extra digits.
