Identical query (with answers) in this older thread. I believe the site Jeff referenced will tell you about "hi-res" 24/96 DTS releases, but I'm not sure if it distinguishes between 1,536 kbps and 754kbps DTS.
I think that a lot of the older Universal and Dreamworks DTS titles (Like Apollo 13 or Saving Private Ryan) are full-bitrate. I do know that older product from those studios often had a seperate full-bitrate DTS version that you could buy.
Are you sure that Saving Private Ryan was the first Half rate Dvd? The reason that I ask is simply due to the fact that Universal used to release seperate DD/DTS of certain titles. I have most of those full rate titles from Universal and Dreamworks. I recall The Red Violin being the first Half Bit Rate DTS dvd, because I bought this title not knowing anything about the movie; and this was during the summer months of 1999. And I know that Saving Private Ryan came out in November 1999.
But here's something new. I know that Lions Gate is releasing the same film, but I'm not sure if it will have dts or not. Scheduled release is in May.
If you are interesting in seeking out other regions there are some great full bitrate titles available elsewhere in the world too, such as: -6th Day (Japan) -The Sixth Sense (Japan) -Blade (Japan) -Lake Placid (Japan) -Enemy At The Gates (UK) -Mad Max (Australia)
Release Date for Saving Private Ryan DTS: November 4, 1999 Release Date for Red Violin DTS/DD: April 18, 2000
Perhaps Robert bought it in the summer months of 2000 rather than 1999.
BTW, I believe The Red Violin is being reissued with a reprice to a MSRP of $15 later this month. I previously saw it as a rental, but I am prepared to pounce at this new price.
