I can understand why you would want a screen, but I was thinkin about putting a projector in my bedroom and I dont want to hang a screen. The walls are flat white, how bad would it look?

Projecting onto a white wall (1 Viewer)

It will look good. The quality of the image will depend on your projector and the extend to which you will be able to completely darken the room.
A few years ago, one of the UK Home Theatre magazines did an extensive test and finally concluded that the white painted wall was the best / most cost-effective solution.
Of course it will be "always there" (cannot roll up).
In stead of white you could also try a metallic/grey paint (spray). Especially, if your projector is "strong" enough (to guarantee the white level) and you cannot always completely darken the room, it will help keeping the stray light less obtrusive (i.e. the dark areas darker).
But you may want to experiment with that.

The reason why I ask is because I want to buy the 53" widescreen Panny for 1500$ and you can pick up a projector in that price range. Dont know how great they are, but I would imagine they arent terrible?!?!

There are many projectors, so the price alone isn't a good indication. It might be good enough in your bedroom, because you probably will have it closer to the screen than in a full-size HT living room. Please, check the Display Devices Area or ask for a good projector in your price range there.
You must realize that you don't have full TV functionality for that price (but if you own a VCR, you can use that as a TV 'receiver').

In my current setup, I compared a white wall directly with other surfaces including various combinations (mixtures) of gray, silver and pearl paints. I also tried the paint I ended up going with which was an aluminium/gray spray paint aptly nicknamed "Firehawk killer". The white wall can look quite good indeed so if you go this route, you should be ok. For me, I wanted the extra boost for black levels and I wanted to frame out any anomalies introduced from using a bit of keystone correction so I made my own screen with the above paint and framed it with a 3" black border. I could not be happier.
