I just got my copy of Jaws from Universal's free DVD offer. As this is a way of burning off old stock it's the DD version. The DD and DTS seem to have the same features. I was wondering if the DTS version sounds any better.

I thought that John Williams' score sounded much better on the DTS version, and that bass on the DTS version was also better. I still have both versions, but no longer listen to the Dolby Digital.

are there any other differences between the dd version and DTS?
hows the video quality on the DTS- any negative consequences there?
are all the extras the same?

there was another thread about the DTS track on another forum and the responses overwhelmingly said the DTS sounded much better giving the music more body, as well as making the reworked foley effect sound more natural.
my interest is definitely piqued, but with so much stuff coming out in the next few months, i really hate to allocate $20+ for an audio upgrade.

I have the DTS version and was pleasantly surprised by how good the reworked soundtrack is. They've basically taken most of the original elements, added some stereo separation and mixed the music into the surrounds a little. A good example is the opening scene around the firecamp. As the camera pans across, the sound of the crackling fire moves slowly across the front soundstage. Nicely done. It's a subtle reworking, not an all-out 5.1 sonic orgy. The only disappointing element I found was the dialoge which is quite 'closed in' sounding and not always that clear. Some of the audio effects have been replaced altogether - the most noticeable one being the explosion at the end.

That said, this is not the soundtrack that won the Oscar. It would have been nice to include the original mono track.
