For the first time, Kenwood offers a THX Select receiver, the VR-7070, at a suggested retail price of $500.
So it's the 6070 in a silver case and a new remote. Glad I picked up the 6070 when I did. Saved myself around $200 and don't have a silver receiver. I do like the new remote! If that's one thing that I wished the 6070 remote had was that it illuminated...nice going Kenwood. Here's a pic of the new remote illuminated.

As cool as the new remote is it's still not worth paying $200 more for the same receiver in a new package

You can get one of those remotes at any Radio Shack for $50. All-In-One also sells it as "Kameleon". Honestly, those remotes suck for home theater for several reasons:

1. There are no buttons. Sure, you can see where everything is, but you won't find yourself able to operate this remote without looking at it.

2. That thing just doesn't fit the hand right at all. I don't care if you have gigantic freakish paws or tiny midget hands, this remote just doesn't feel right.

3. The cursor keys for DVD are on the alternate screen for the DVD player, meaning you have to hit one button to change to that screen before you can operate the cursor. In fact, you'll find that operations that took one press on a hard-button remote are now taking multiple presses on that remote. Plus, because you have to program those keypresses into your macros, you end up taking up more space in the remote's fairly limited memory.

4. The biggest reason: The lighting on it comes on with the slightest vibration... meaning every time your subwoofer does anything remotely interesting, the remote lights up. Every time you bump the table, the remote lights up. Every time you shift your leg on the couch or change positions, the remote lights up. Not only is this annoying in your HT environment, it makes the batteries on this thing last for maybe a month of solid HT usage.

So while I applaud Kenwood for trying something different, I think that remote is simply a bad idea. I bought one from Radio Shack and while it is very flexible and easy to use, I took it back. Just FYI!

Am I missing something, or Kenwood is not stepping up to 7 channels yet. You got Harman Kardon, Sony, Denon etc., doing 7 channels, why not Kenwood?

Kenwood always has the coolest looking remotes but the most useless in my opinion. That goes back to owning the VR-2090, which I will nominate as the most useless remote control of all time (a touchscreen that couldn't be touched, you had to use a little knob to scroll over the buttons, here is a picture http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews/vr2090.html ). By the way, my 2090 was silver and I don't miss the color a bit. Silver looks cool on paper but when you put it in your cabinet it just stands out big time.

Maybe I missed it? but it doesn't look like the "light up" remote is an "RF" one either & that was one thing that I thought Kenwood had going for them over most other remotes.

Have you seen the remote that comes with the 6070? IMO one of the best remotes that I've seen to come with a receiver in the $500 or lower price range, maybe even the $1000 or lower range. The remote is well designed and laid out and to top it off is RF. I do understand what you are saying I had an old Kenwood receiver with a tiny little remote that was good for nothing. Good thing that they decided to change.
