So I'm looking to start making an indie film(s), and to be honest I have not kept up with the growth of digital photography. So I'm looking for something quality,

Less than $2,000 is usually a consumer grade-camera, which is of-course pretty usuable. Most indie digital movies are shot on "pro-sumer" models like the Canon GL models.

However, the older GL1 can be found in your price range

Canon GL stuff is the lowest I would go unless you're shooting home movies for your family. Figure $2000ish, probably a bit more.

And on the Sony side are the DCRTRV950 and VX2000. Look around B&H and Promax. (I bought my cameras from Promax and had a good experience.)

Maybe you've considered this, but be sure to allow some budget for a decent mic and recording system (DAT, or even Minidisc), because remember: you might pass off bad video as "artistic," but bad sound will always give you away. :) :emoji_thumbsup:
