Target is clearing out their Apple iPod stock (10 gig). I believe they are the Windows version. The Target near me is selling them for $279, I read on the Internet of other people getting them for $150. Good deal! I just paid $399 for mine.

They are going fast though, as word is getting out.

The reason behind this...new iPods are expected to be announced next week.

Yep, the only question I have is if you will have to use a new iPod to access the new online service...

THANKS! I have been waiting for a long time for a PC 10G Ipod! It's loading files as I type. I called 12 Targets, and the first 11 were sold out for 2-3 weeks. I found ONE, which is AWESOME! The cost was $279. The lowest clearance price in Texas was $279 according to them. I'm so geeeked!

I picked one up too, although I might take it back. It was on sale for $279.99, and using the 10% off when you apply for a Target card, I ended up getting it for a bit over $250! Whoo-hoo!

This week's Fortune magazine has the specs on the new iPods. They look exactly the same except for the fact that it is slimmer and the buttons around the wheel are now circular and right below the screen-I can scan the picture if you want. They are releasing 3 new versions:
30 GB-$499
15 GB-$399
10 GB-$299

The 30 and 15 GB versions come with "a slick new docking station, clip-on case, and remote control...a USB 2.0 Cable for Windows is coming soon." So basically it is the same thing, just with a larger hard drive and the same accesories, except you no longer have to use the white block to charge it and you don't have to use FireWire. And sadly, there is no video support.

The dock (optional on new 10 GB iPod) accomodates analog audio output and FireWire and USB 2.0 connection and will not work with older iPods.

Finally, the firmware on new iPod is different. It's got features not found on older iPod: on-the-go playlist (for creating a playlist using iPod), 2 new games, note reader, alarm clock, and customizable menu. Older iPods won't be getting free upgrade to these new features, unfortunately.

I have the optical wheel 10 GB iPod and while it's good to see refinements, I will wait for more significant upgrade (e.g., larger hard disk, higher resolution screen, CF and/or SD/MMC slot, additional audio codecs, more scratch resistent enclosure, AM/FM tuner, digital audio output).

You do not need a new iPod to access the music service, you need iPod system software 1.3 & iTunes 4.0 which leaves Windows users out of the mix for awhile. There will be an iTunes for Windows down the road.

Actually, Target will be selling the new iPods. And, as has been mentioned, so will Dell.

So, has anyone verified a $150 price anywhere? If the new improved version is only $20 more, then it's not really worth getting the old one for $279.

Hi Aaron,

The Target near me had new iPods for $199.99 and they told me that their demo model sold for $145. I guess that is where the $150 prices came from, demo or open box units.

These were all of the "old" models and not the just released ones.

Since I'm still an Amazon Associate (though NO LONGER promoting links via this site due to restrictions), I try to keep tabs on the Amazon prices. The new iPods happen to coincide with an Electronics sale going on through June 10th. Prices aren't displayed immediately, but the 10GB model is on sale for $284.05 and the 15GB model is on sale for $379.05. Just wanted to give the heads-up. :)

there was a deal that dell put togethere a while ago that was stealler, it was a one day special though, basicly with combination of an online cupon and 10% off it droped the 30 gig down to $409.10. I actually know a person who scored 8 of them and then resold them on ebay for a nice profit :D gotta love dell and their attempts at moving mass quantities.

I have one of the 5 gig iPods that was a Christmas present from one of the tv shows I worked on. Problem is, I dropped it once and that basically knocked it out of commission. Anyone know where I can get this fixed? I really like it...
