I am in the process of building a new HT setup, which will be used for 50% movies, 50% music. The only piece I have right now is the reciever: RCA STAV-3880 100W/ch, 5 ch, DTS, DD. I am planning on purchasing Axiom m60tis for my mains, Axiom QS8s for my surrounds, and I have not yet decided on a center. Also, I wont be purchasing a sub as of yet. Anyway, I am confused about amps. I understand that a seperate amp from your reciever provides much cleaner, louder, and accurate sound. However, when I look around, it seems that for a new amp, one must spend around $1000 to get something nice. I was looking around on ebay, and I found a B&K AV5000 Series II, going for about half that, and a B&K ST 3030 for $100 cheaper than the AV5000. Are these good amps for my setup? Is there a reasonable similarly priced or cheaper option availble? Also, the AV5000 is a 5 channel amp, and the 3030 is just 2 channels. Is it important to amplify my rears and center if I wont be using them for music? Does the sound quality change for music when going from a 5 channel to a 2 channel amp?
Any advice is appreciated, and any alternative purchase recommendations are also welcome.
Thanks,
Lumen
