The prices for that model are getting ridiculous on ebay and I wanted to get one of these terrific machines.

Are there any other Panasonic models with the same picture and sound circuitry, F-chip etc. that are either older or perhaps more expensive...and are still in print?

The Yamaha S2300 is based on the Panasonic model, and the shootout results were only slightly lower :)

Course the S2300 is way more expensive than the RP-82.

I believe the XP-50 had the same video specs as the 82. Panasonic seems to be going cheaper with their new models.

The Denon DVD1600 is very similar. It uses the same MPEG decoder and also the same deinterlacer. It is OEM by Panasonic for Denon. I don't know if it is still a current model, but expect to pay roughly $400 for a new unit.
