From a Gamespot article:

"Namco confirmed in its statement that it has requested a reopening of merger talks with Sega ... Sega hopes to come to a preliminary decision on April 23, when the company will hold its executive meeting."

Could Orta be a special character in Soul Caliber III? ;)

Now this seems like an intelligent merger idea. On the surface, at least. I'm no business guru, though.

From a business POV, Sammy makes more sense to me. With Sammy, you're taking a company with great hardware manufacturing knowledge & distribution setup, and a solid (but small) software side, the Sega software side (which it does well) could be left to do what it needs to do & there's little duplication with Sega on a manpower level. Sammy is /very/ solid financially which is what Sega is desperate for.

With Namco, you've got total duplication of every role - publishing, marketing, management. From a dev point of view, yeah, it'd be a good merger on paper, but not (in my mind) from a management/business perspective. Heads would have to roll & there'd be a nice big fight over roles in the new company.

But the stock market seems dead set against a merger with a non-game company.
