Hi,
Yes I know this goes somewhere else but I also know nobody will see it there.

I'm considering purchasing some JBL speakers that JandR and OneCall have for the exact same price including free shipping. Which place have you had the best luck with?

Thanks,
BrianGC

I am waiting for a pair of JBL S38II's from J&R right now. So far the only problem I had with J&R was their shipping policy. Basically, you need to have whatever address you use for shipping listed on your credit card account. In my case I have a separate business shipping address (mail boxes etc.) that I use mainly for receiving packages.

Other than that everything has been ok so far. :)

That would be a deal breaker for me. Then again, I live about 15 min (walking) from JandR so it would be silly for me to mail order because of not only the obvious taxes but the shipping.

I'd go for the more relaxed policy of One Call if you would want to ship to a different address than the one on your card. Other than that, both a wonderful companies to deal with.

I'd go with J&R for one simple reason. J&R will let you return anything you buy from them if you aren't happy with the product. Onecall does NOT accept returns unless the product is defective. If you simply didn't like the speakers, your SOL with Onecall. J&R will take anything back simply by paying return shipping. Although i believe Onecall is a decent company, i buy from J&R. You just never know when something won't be to your liking. This happened to me a couple years ago when i bought a Sony receiver from J&R. I did NOT like the sound from a Sony 444ES receiver so, i returned it. Had i bought it from Onecall, they would'nt have let me return it. Nuff said IMO.

EDIT:

Here's a cut & paste of Onecall's return policy:

OneCall Return Policy
Our goal is to provide customers with timely service in the event a return is necessary. We recommend that you carefully read the following notes detailing our return policy:

OneCall accepts returns of factory-sealed, unopened, new merchandise within 30 days of customer's receipt of the product; or returns of defective new product within 15 days of receipt. The customer may choose to receive a product exchange or a credit by the same means payment was made. Unfortunately, OneCall is unable to accept returns of the following items:

Cut-to-length audio or video cable
Televisions delivered by motor freight
Satellite Receivers
Personal Video Recorders
Factory Renewed Merchandise
Processing Time
All returns will be processed within 10 days after receipt, provided the conditions outlined below are met. (Processing may be slightly extended during the holiday season).

Prior Authorization
OneCall does not accept any return without a valid Return Authorization Number. Please call 1.800.663.5255 for a Return Authorization Number.

Notation & Packaging
Please include a detailed written description of the defect or problem and how to replicate it. This will help expedite the return process. Caution: merchandise found to be non-defective shall incur a minimum 15% restocking fee. Merchandise must include all factory packed accessories in the original carton. Return merchandise must be double boxed with no writing on the manufacturers box. Incomplete returns will receive a credit reflecting any missing accessories.

Return Shipping
The customer is responsible for the return shipping to our warehouse. In the case of a defective exchange, OneCall will provide and pay for the outbound shipping for replaced merchandise. Returned merchandise must arrive no later than 30 days after issuance of a Return Authorization Number. Please address returns to one of the following addresses:

So, if you don't open the box, ya get 30 days. What good is that ?

Here's J&R's Return policy:

RETURNS
Each product is fully guaranteed by the manufacturer (unless specifically stated otherwise). The complete warranty is included with the product. The manufacturers' warranty covers repair or replacement of defective parts, subject to the conditions set forth. On most items, J&R offers an exclusive 30-day exchange/refund policy to mail order customers only. The following products are not acceptable for credit, refund, or exchange and must be repaired by manufacturers' authorized service centers: TVs and monitors 20" and up, computer products, laser printers, and fax machines. To locate a service center near you, please refer to your product manual. Unused computer software may be exchanged for a different title, if unopened, with some exceptions. Defective computer software may be exchanged for same title only. Some software programs are not returnable to J&R under any circumstance and must be returned to the manufacturer. Car Stereo and electronic equipment should be "bench-tested" PRIOR to installation (units that have been installed, scratched, or abused WILL NOT BE accepted for return or credit!). Pre-recorded videotapes, videogames, cassettes, CDs, DVDs and laserdiscs can only be exchanged for a different title, if unopened! Defective pre-recorded videotapes, videogames, cassettes, CDs, DVDs and laserdiscs may be exchanged for same title ONLY! Styli, phono cartridges, beepers and film are NOT acceptable for exchange, credit or refund.

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, you may return it for exchange or refund (excluding shipping and handling charges) within 30 days, subject to a return authorization from J&R (see exceptions above).

Returns are subject to a restocking fee, depending on the condition of goods and packaging material.

For an RA number (Return Authorization) on returns call Customer Service at 1-800-426-6027. All Returns require an authorization number. Please note that an RA# does not guarantee final disposition. All returns are subject to inspection.

All exchanged/returned merchandise must be in original factory condition, including all packaging materials, inserts and manuals, warranty cards (not filled-out) and all accessories. Please do not tape or write anything on the item or the package! We will charge you for replacement of damaged, altered, missing, written-on or taped-on contents or cartons. We reserve the right to refuse any such returns.

Pack the products into a shipping box with plenty of packing material, and tape securely. Write the RA# issued by Customer Service clearly on the outside of the shipping carton.

Any merchandise returned to us unauthorized will be refused. Please ship your parcel back to us freight prepaid! We suggest that you use UPS Ground Service "Insured." Sorry, we cannot accept COD or freight-collect shipments. No goods will be accepted for exchange or return without authorization.

Purchase made through our website or by phone may also be returned to our Retail Store. Returns for computer and office products can be brought to 19 Park Row basement. Returns for other consumer electronics can be brought to 31 Park Row basement

Nuff said Chris. I now consider myself enlightened and will certainly remember the policies of One Call when making an order.

But Onecall offers better financing deals if you have the onecall card. Why pay for something now if you can pay for it a year from now, I love those 12 month 0% finance, no payment offers.

Jandr.com also gives 2% back through ebates.com so they are cheaper in a sense.

I have used both and both are fine.

I can vouch for J&R service, I had an incident where I was mislead by their sign that indicated any 4 DVDs traded in for a new DVD 19.99, well to make a long story short, I complained to them about the sign, and they agreed and gave me a 20.00 gift check to use any way I see fit in their store. Etailers are good for the cheapest prices, heck I got my JVC 7600 from 800.com years ago and no complains yet, I got my Platinum Audio speakers for Audio Advisor and they even replaced a woofer for me at no charge what so ever, two years after my purchase, but nothing beats the ability to deal with a large store where you can actually visit them, or return products with out a hassle.

I've had things shipped to an address diffrent than my credit card. I ordered something for my Dad to be shipped to my home in New Jersey in order to save on NYC tax.

You still have to play by the rules. And the traffic picks up in "Manufacturer Feedback" when interesting threads can be found there.

I don't buy it unless I already have the cash to pay off the bill. You never know what unexpected expenses will come up.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I was leaning toward JandR. It seemed to me the OneCall lowest price link was a match to JandR's deal, so might as well give JandR the business. The return policy seals the deal.
