Sorry if this is the wrong forum. Please move it if you wish.
I am thinking about upgrading from the N64. The Game Cube looks cule (Star Wars, Luigi, and Perfect Dark in 2002) but I know the PS2 has ALOT more games and will play DVD movies.
Wondering how PS2 owners feel. Is the PS2 superior or should I get the Cube?

I think it depends on the type of games you like to play. I personally love Nintendo because of their great series of games (Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc...). I do think that in general the games for Nintendo are for a younger crowd though. Still I will be adding the Game Cube to my other systems.

What happened to the good ol' days when gamers could walk down the street together, hand in hand?
As I recall, ya whipper-snapper, there never was none of that holdin' hands nonsense in the good ol' days. You pups today don't know what it was like! When joysticks only had one button - one button! And we were THANKFUL for that button! And games didn't 'pause' neither - you kept going and going until ya blacked out on the floor, or ya peed all over yerself cuz you didn't want to lose yer turn by walkin' away!
In them days, system warfare was REAL war. Non of this namby-pamby in'ernet flaming junk, where ya just makes funny faces and curse at eachothers. No, we used to get all our Atari buddies together, and we'd go over to the house of some freakish Intellivision fruitcake, and we'd beat the snot out of 'em. Served 'em right too, for buying some dang wimpy George Plimpton game system! And them Odyssey boys? Why, we'd catch 'em an' tie 'em up an' drop 'em into the nearest septic tank! Least we did 'till we realized they couldn't tell the difference 'tween that and playin' those crappy Odyssey games - after that we just beat 'em senseless, just like we did those 'tellyvision boys. And then when the Coleco gang came along... lor' I tell ya, those were some mighty hard times, sonny, mighty hard. Them Coleco boys were fast and tough, it was bloody, it was. But we beat 'em in the end, we did. Knocked 'em down and sent 'em packin'!
So don't ya go tellin' me that I wen' around holdin' hands with them 'tellyvision pansies or Coleco-ownin' freaks, no how! Them's fightin' words, ya pup, and I'll take ya 'cross me knee and whip you good, ya hear me!

Here in the UK we had the Commodore 64 versus the Spectrum 48K. Those were the days...
Of one thing you can be sure: When someone attacks computer gaming *then* we all rise up and speak as one. :)

Dont forget the old Atari ST vs Amiga days!
Back to the topic tho, i wouldnt worry about which is better, just pick the console that will have the games you want to play...
If you're really into Mario, Perfect Dark, Rogue Squadron, Pimkin, FZero etc get the GC.
If you'd prefer DevilMayCry, GranTurismo, MetalGear, SilentHill, AceCombat, SoulReaver, VirtuaFighter4 etc get the PS2.
Better still get both!

I've grown to really, really hate interlaced scan. Since the PS2 only does 480i, I wouldn't buy it unless there is a game for it that you absolutely have to have.
All of the big 3 (PS2, XBox, Cube) are going to have some killer games, depending on your taste.

I would say get the GameCube especially if you are upgrading from a N64 and then when Sony drops the PS2 price down, pick that system up. Its a good system, just has way too many crappy games on it.

I've never owned a Playstation (my friends gave me a N64 when it came out for Xmas). I love Perfect Dark and Star Wars, I liked Mario and Turok until I beat them.
It doesn't look like Perfect Dark or Turok will be out until late 2002 (if they are on time).
On the other hand, Playstation 2 has a lot of games, including Spy Hunter (my all time favorite arcade game).
I guess my question is, are the graphics of the PS2 as good or better than the Game Cube.

First of all, there have been no solid announcements at all about Perfect Dark. Nobody has even seen a screenshot from it, so we might as well not speculate (though you can if you wish).
Second, the X-Box is more powerful than the GameCube which is more powerful than the PS2. Thats just how it is.
Third, all three consoles have such great graphics that comparing them is nitpicking. The PS2 has great looking games already, which gives it a leg up, but the XB and GCN will probably have better looking games by next spring. I doubt that buying one console because of the graphics being slightly better than another one is that big of a deal.
Now, back to topic. I say get both. If not, then buy a GameCube. Why? Because you probably have a CD player and a DVD player and if you wanted a PSX, you would already have one. If you don't like Nintendo's games, then buy PS2.
You can't compare two consoles like this. You can compare aspects of them and say which you would want and why, but you can't outright compare them. Comparing HT equipment is easier because each piece has one function, but consoles play games and each game is different.

You're not talking about interlaced video games, are you? If so, what's the big deal? Your TV should be able to upconvert them easily, compared to interlaced video found on TV shows. Aren't console games inherently progressive anyways, like PC games?
At any rate, I definately wouldn't turn my back on a game console just because it didn't do native progressive scanning for games. As a matter of fact, I prefer watching interlaced scan when it's MEANT to be interlaced (ie. anything shot with a video camera), as trying to convert it to progressive introduces way too many artifacts for my taste.

Not a big deal to the untrained eye.
Actually, the hardest things to double are distinct-field sourced material, like videogames and sports. The easy things to double are film-sourced (like 99% of TV dramas and comedies, and movies of course).
You lose resolution when compared to a true progressive source, plus you get an extra delay of typically 1/30 or 1/15 of a second or more depending on the doubler. This throws off gameplay timing; you have to swing at that pitch earlier, hit that kick or punch button earlier, and anticipate what an NPC has done, because by the time you see it, it already happened according to the game console.
Interlace sucks. After a few hours of playing 480i and 480p Jet Grind Radio, I am now extremely sensitive to interlace tearing in videogames; and it really does hurt gameplay because it reduces effective resolution and makes it harder to see foreground objects that are in front of tearing backgrounds. Sony has no excuse for the PS2 to not have included progressive scan.
