See graphical comparison and screenshots of the two versions here on DVDBeaver. They recommend the Criterion edition as being superior. The Criterion has officially been OOP for some time, but I was able to find a copy as recently as January. Checking today, DeepDiscountDVD lists it for $17.96 (55% off the list price of $39.95). I love this film, BTW.

When Criterion released this in 1999, the list price was $39.95. I can only guess that after it went OOP, the list price was reduced to $24.95 to get rid of existing stocks. Bargain-hunter that I am, I'll continue to believe that I saved a bundle. :) Glad to have it in my collection nonetheless.

I purchased this a few days ago from DDD. I was just curious if there was any difference in a/v quality.

Thanks.

Amazing movie. Get the Criterion, it has commentary.

"I was thinking...how happy I am."
