Hi

I'm planning to buy this 27" TV to replace my aging 19" Funai TV. My budget is strictly under $400, keepin in mind, I have to buy component cables and another VCR to add as a video input to my TV (since my existing TV is a TV/VCR combo) so I'm leaving at least $100 for the VCR/component cables.

http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=...cat=24&scat=27

At first, I was about to buy the SamSung 27" Flat-Screen ($379) but then recalled I had to spend another $100 on my other neccessities so I changed my mind. Also that Samsung has about 550 lines of res compared to the RCA of 720 lines!
I did visit my local BestBuy yesterday and the picture on the RCA set looks great and the screen too looks almost flat.

Has anyone had any experiance with this VPort TV? (BTW, I do own an XBox for my gaming needs which also acts up as my bedroom DVD player)

Any opinions appreciated :)

Sandeep, if you have a BJs Wholesale Club nearby, try checking out the 27" JVC AV-27F703. Please read my earlier post on this Here

BJ's is a wholesale club just like Sam's Club. In fact the rumor is that Sam's Club is buying them out. If I was you I would stay away from RCA their repair record has been terrible. As far as Horizontal Resolution goes, RCA uses their own way of measuring it while most other companies use the EIA Standard. The 720 Lines you are talking about is RCA's own measurement.

FROM A 2000-2001 RCA CATALOG:
667 Lines = EIA 500 Lines
680 Lines = EIA 510 Lines
705 Lines = EIA 530 Lines
765 Lines = EIA 573 Lines
790 Lines = EIA 592 Lines
900 Lines = EIA 675 Lines

The JVC that was mentioned above is a heck of a deal at $299 and is what I would jump on if you can find it.

BJ's Wholesale club is www.bjs.com maybe you have one in your area? I just looked at the RCA set & the big thing I don't like about it is the audio amp. only being 2 watts a channel. If your going to hook it up to a Receiver ok but if your not using a Receiver this set is going to be hard to hear. If I was you I would even consider spending the $400 on a tv which you are going to have for awhile & then save up for a vcr (I got an Akai HI-FI Stereo for $39.99) & you can use cheap component cables for now until you can save up some more money. Again you will probably be kicking yourself 2 years from now if you skimped on the price of the tv set now.
