Yay! Finally, the Kurosawa/Mifune retrospective has hit Dallas! I've been waiting since last summer, and had feared it just wasn't coming to town. But here it is, at The Magnolia Theater.

This weekend, and through the 17th, are...

Drunken Angel
I live in Fear
and... [drumroll please] Seven Samurai

Awesome. I'm out the door right now to catch 'em. :D

Ben, you lucky dog!

Seven Samurai just left Indianapolis...I was in bliss watching it, all 3 1/2 hours. At the end, the audience applauded.

I wish the retrospective was playing here. There's nothing like seeing these on the big screen.

Enjoy!

Thanks Claire! They applauded here too after Seven Samurai, and it was a full house. I went early to the two others, and there weren't but maybe ten people at either show, so there wasn't much applause then. It was terrific seeing these. I'd never seen Drunken Angel or I Live In Fear before, so that was a real treat, but I've also never seen Seven Samurai in the theater either, so that was super cool too. :)

I saw Drunken Angel and I Live in Fear at the Saturday afternoon showings. Only a few people in attendance. The Seven Samurai showing on Sunday afternoon had pretty good attendance, but was not close to a sellout.

Chris Richard of Plano had made a posting about this a few weeks ago, but as the search function was disabled, I was not able to find it. Like Ben, I had not seen I Live in Fear. I found it quite interesting, but I think that it must have had more immediacy to have seen this in the 50s.

I caught two of the shows Saturday night. It was great to see a very full house for Seven Samurai. The crowd was really into it with lots of reaction to the humor and a good deal of applause at the end of the film.

I stayed for a late showing of Drunken Angel. There were probably 30-40 people, many had just seen Seven Samurai. Probably not a good film to see just after a classic. I kept thinking Tokyo looked like the border town in Touch of Evil.

I need to catch I Live in Fear this week. I have not seen any of these three films. I have seen most of Seven Samurai but never in one sitting. I kept waiting to see it in a theater.

Definitely go Chris! I agree with Lew that some of the impact of I Live in Fear may be lost to history, but I think it was still incredibly well done. And Seven Samurai on the big screen... :emoji_thumbsup: :emoji_thumbsup:

How about that last frame of Drunken Angel? Wow!

Dome I thought that you went to U—or have I misinterpreted something somewhere? K. I can read Pikeville in your signature, but hey, Lexington is a fair way from the mountains, at least in spirit.
