Buying a 17" LCD from Dell today, please give input! (1 Viewer)

I am looking to buy a 17"LCD monitor from Dell today. I noticed in the Deals section, there is $40 off an order over $350 plus Dell has 5% of monitors, both offers expire today. First, when do you think another deal similar will come around?

The big question is, WHAT TO BUY? I am looking to spend about $400. I really do not know what exactly to look for when buying a LCD monitor. Any input or any specific monitor to buy is appreciated.

If you are into gaming get one with a 16ms response time. Dell.com only offers one, a Planar. The other 17" models with this feature are the NEC LCD1760V & Hitachi CML174SXW.

If just for general use a high contrast ratio (400:1+) and a name brand is always good. Tom's Hardware.

no gaming at all, just looking to upgrade from this 15" compaq that is dated 1994:frowning:
