So, why is my Kenwood VR-6060 doing this? (1 Viewer)

After a couple of weeks of bliss with my new Kenwood VR-6060, I have noticed something a little troublesome. It is either the Kenwood or my newbie wiring, but I'm not sure which. Whenever any particularly high pitched dialogue graces my center channel, their is sort of a hum/crackle to it. My best example so far is in Spider-Man when Peter Parker is about to enter the ring to face Randy Savage, the wrestler who just got pummeled by Savage screams "I can't feel my leeeeggs!". It happens on discs other than Spider-Man, mind you, but that is just my best example. Ed Norton's more nasally dialogue in Red Dragon causes this as well.

I have tried multiple speakers, and 2 different (cheapo brand)speaker wires (put into the binding posts the old fashioned way...would banana plugs help?), but still it persists. The center channel as a whole also sounds a bit subdued compared to the rest. Does this sound like a Kenwood issue, wiring issue, or a you need to tweak thing a little bit issue? I am about to run DVD Essentials tonight in the case that it might just be a settings problem.

Can you describe the proplem a little more? Do you mean a loud hum or a loud crackle? Does it sound distorted? (Also, how high do you crank up the volume?)

I have the same receiver, and I haven't noticed this. In fact, my center channel seemed a little TOO prominent in my system so I turned it down a little.

However, I have the Spider-Man DVD so I'll play that scene when I get home and let you know if I hear any problems.

Jack, it basically sounds like the speaker is being overloaded, even when it is at low volumes. I only particularly have noticed it on 2 or 3 DVDs, so hopefully it is fine.

Nick, I just listened to that Spider-Man scene several times and I can't detect any problem from my center channel. I tried it at a low volume and a high volume, and I heard no crackling or humming at all.

Do you have Active EQ or Speaker EQ on? Perhaps those modes are introducing some unwanted noise.

Aha, so it wasn't the JBL Center. (If I remember from a post the other day)

If the Center channel is subdued/crackling with different speakers and correct wiring, I'd suspect a Kenwood issue.
