Well Steve, all I can say is that my opinion of your taste in movies has just increased dramatically. :) I'm not really sure what my first pick will be if you take The Apartment, but probably Sullivan's Travels, or possibly the Commitments. :)

Well, it's either a slow day or not that many people are interested. In any case, I've decided to pare it down to eight players. We need one more to get started...

Well, you roll the ball down the alley in such a fashion as to knock down as many pins as possible - preferrably all ten on the first throw. Then you....oh, never mind. :D

Okay, here's what we do: we each compile a list of 10 film comedies. We make our picks one at a time, in the order in which you joined the draft. I go first, Weinberg is second, etc. Mike, you're last. :) After you pick, it goes back to me and we start the second round of picks. We keep going until everyone has a list of ten. Of course, a particular film can be selected only once so most of the fun in these drafts is trying to snag all your favorites. Cussing people out for taking a film you were gonna pick is part of the fun! :D

BTW, you should subscribe to this thread (down at the bottom of the page under the "submit reply/spell check" buttons) so you know when your turn is up - you get 12 hours to make your pick and then you're skipped. You can make your choice at any time after you're skipped, but if someone took a movie you wanted, tough cookies. If you ain't gonna be around when your turn comes up, you can always private message me with your pick and I'll post it for you.

Once our lists are finished, we'll vote on them as if it were a regular tourney.

There ya go! :)

Steve,

Please don't tell me you're going to go 1-8, 1-8 in this draft. It is simple mathematics that this is not fair, and if that's the plan, I will have to reluctantly pull out of this draft. I guess I need to seek that information out when I first join these things. There seems to be a small trend towards this bias draft order which is beyond me.

Well, it doesn't matter to me which way we go, but since you're in the middle of the rotation, I don't see how it would affect you one way or the other.

Stick around, it'll be fun! :)

My first pick is Raising Arizona.

"It's a crazy world."

"Someone oughta sell tickets."

"Sure, I'd buy one."

Actually it benefits me slightly, but I still oppose it on principle. Think of it as money. We have $136,000 to split up. We put it in packets containing $16,000, $15,000,..., down to $1,000. I'll pick first and you pick last.

I of course pick $16,000. By the time it's your turn, you take $9,000. Now, whichever of us goes next is going to take the packet containing $8,000.

If we go 1-8,1-8, I'm going to end up with $24,000 and you're only going to end up with $10,000. If we go 1-8, 8-1, we'll all end up with $17,000.

As I'm in the third position, the 1-8,1-8 gets me $20,000 instead of $17,000, but it's still not fair.

Someone asked me about sports drafts. They don't reverse order in the second round. That's true, but sports drafts are not, and are not designed to be internally fair. They give a big advantage to the teams that go first, and do so on purpose. That's why the teams that suck go first, and the champions go last. The idea is to improve overall parity, not have an internally fair draft.

I'm at the rear end of the order, so naturally I prefer a snake rotation. But even if I were in the top spot, I'd choose the snake rotation for fairness.

Scott is up.

George, the one thing I understand less than women is math. :frowning: But like I said, it doesn't really matter to me which way we go so we'll do the 1 - 8/8 - 1 deal.

Still waitin' on Scott...
