Hi,

I have Polk audio front & center speakers. I need to buy rear surround sound. I DO not have wall in the back of TV room ( its open to kitchen ), now do I need book shelf or surround sound? Someone told me that since there is no backwall, I should get bookshelf but others have told me to get surround sound because the spread the sound better... any advice?

A bookshelf speaker can be used as a surround. And actually the fact that you don't have a back wall makes monopoles a good choice. I've heard dioples don't work well without two walls to bounce off. Just mount some bookshelf speakers on the side wall.
