was all set to get the 65" RPTV, but after reading that folks are picking up front projectors for under 2k i am thinking of going that route.
Light can be controlled as it will be in basement.
Just need to figure out if I would have the need to watch any regular tv in the room or just make it a dedicated theater room.
or what would my options be with having both?

Tom:

There is nothing like a large screen front projection set up to give you that setting in a movie theater feeling. You can always watch regular TV blown up too. Nothing quite like watching your favorite TV show or sports on a large screen.

With the price of the new front projection systems in the sub $2,000 range this is the way to go.

Parker,
sounds like that is what I am going to do. what you just run the satallite cable to the projector?
looking at either the Sanyo Z1 or the Pannasonic L300U

There is an active thread right now dealing with the L300U and the Z1, as well as the HS10. Another to consider in this pricerange is the X1 from Infocus.

Does your satellite box have component or s-video out? If so, perhaps you can run this to your projector.

I just swapped my Pioneer Elite 60" RPTV for the Sanyo Z1 front projector. Boy am I happy...

Better picture, better fit in the room, and larger picture to boot. The Z1 seems to have a lot for such a low price ($1300 on eBay). I have a dedicated room with no ambient light -- with my seat 15' away = perfect set up.
