Best Live Concert That You Saw?? (1 Viewer)

Well,what is the best live show that you ever saw.For me,it had to be Springsteen.Lets hear from you.

Just recently it would of been Peter Gabriel's recent tour, but one of the best shows i've been too was George Thorogood and the Destroyers in the late 80's at an outdoor music fest. I was about 16 and that place was rockin.

That's a tough one because big festival shows are tough to compare against smaller venues just because they're so different.

I think the best big show I've ever seen would probably be one of the early Canadian Edgefest concerts round about 96-97. Being able to see Our Lady Peace, Collective Soul, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Moist, I Mother Earth and a bunch more I can't remember all on one beautiful summer afternoon makes me smile just to think of it.

For a smaller show (about 2000 people) I'd have to say the best concert I've ever seen was The Tea Party at the U of Calgary's Mac Hall. They're not ever really one of my favorite bands, maybe top 10, but not top 5.

An easy way to explain it would be to quote Jeff Beatty from Almost Famous, "I get people off. If I see a guy who isn't getting off, I MAKE him get off." It was one of those shows that makes you bob your head and smile from ear to ear. And plus, they did a cover of the Stones' 'Paint it Black' that rocked my goddamn face right off. Seriously. I had to go back the next day to get it.

Of course, I see my favorite band, Pearl Jam, for the first time on May 30th in Vancouver. My list of best concerts could change May 31st.

I was lucky enough to catch Mike Keneally twice in 2001 at a little club in West Virginia. By far the best live music experience I've had in my life. If your not familiar with Mr. Keneally, check him out. Amazing musician.

The Replacements in 1986.

Without a doubt, Luther Allison. It was about a year before he died. He played at a festival that gave him a 2 hour time slot and you could tell he was just getting warmed up when his time ran out. I wish that show was at a club, it would've been alot longer.
I saw Wilco on their last tour and it was an amazing show, even thought they didn't play a single song from their first album, not a single Uncle Tupelo song(not that I was expecting them to) and few from their second album. It was the second time I've seen them, with the first show being kind of mediocre.
I find I enjoy shows at smaller clubs more than the big arena-type shows. I've seen The Tea Party and The Tragically Hip at big outdoor shows and in smaller(ie 100 people) clubs and the club shows were always more enjoyable.

Probably the best was Springsteen at Nassau Coliseum Long Island, late December 1980 (River tour). He also played there New Years Eve - it was his longest set ever. I saw him on few days earlier - and he was surely warming up for that show. It was his SECOND longest set ever. These shows were professionally recorded, and are available if you look.............

The most interesting was a Rick Derringer concert in the early 80's at the Palladium in NYC. Cyndi Lauper opened, Ricks current band "Derringer" played a set. Then came an "intermission". Everything else was "unannounced" - next up - Edgar Winter. After him - Todd Rundgren. Finally - a set from a curly haired guy in shades who just walked on and said "I heard there was a party in New York I HAD to come to... so here I am"; a complete set from Ian Hunter.

Evening ended with a half hour jam from all. Maybe not the "biggest names" in the biz - even then - but a truly memorable evening.

David Bowie, Members Only Show at Roseland Ballroom, NYC, 2000.

Tool, Lateralus Tour, Radio City Music Hall, 2002.

Tori Amos, Scarlet's Walk Tour, Riverside Church, NYC, 2002.

I love all three of these artists (and many more) dearly, but what set these three apart were unique venues/experiences. For example, seeing Tori Amos up close, sitting in a pew in a majestic, gothic cathedral is one thing, but seeing her father after the show was just *ridiculous*. Great memories from all.

Any Paul McCartney show(I've seen 11), any Springsteen show(I have seen 5).

The best show I've ever seen was the original Dixie Dregs back in the late 70's. This was at the Music Hall at the University of Tennessee. They were the tightest group I've ever seen and they had all kinds of wild time changes. They played most of the major numbers from their first three albums. Their encore was stupendous. They mimiced the Osmond Brothers and kicked their legs up in unison, and sang "dregs, dregs, disco dregs" to a funky piece that sounds like George Clinton could have written it. DISCO DREGS never appeared on any of their albums. You had to be there, I quess.

The Who - The Kingdome, Seattle...just because The Clash opened for them and when The Clash finished the front OPENED UP and I got right up there in the ear-bleeding section! Oh, and some guy puked on my sneakers.
