I was watching superman yesterday (trying to restore my faith in super hero films after seeing daredevil) spoiler for superman: and when jonathon kent (glen ford) died I remebered think how well acted it was and the impact it had on the story line of the film.

So which are you favourite movie death scenes and why? do you love gore, surprise, well acted??

a few of my favourites are the one mentioned above and

spoiler for leon at the end of leon when he opens his fist to find the pin from the grenade (a great finale to the film)

spoiler for final destination the girl that gets wiped out by the bus, for pure comedy value

How about Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie? Paul Reuben's (AKA Pee Wee Herman)
death scene was a scream. I didn't care for the rest of the movie, but that scene was hilarious.

What could have been a great death scene, but then they "sequelled out" was Mel Gibson
being shot numerous times in Lethal Weapon II and laying in the bottom of the ship's hold while "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" played. I was actually moved, and then felt totally cheated when he lived. Could have been a great ending, but they needed more cash from the franchise, I guess.

How about Augustus McRae (Robert Duvall)
in Lonesome Dove? This is probably the only scene in a BOOK that has ever made me cry (well, maybe "Hey Boo."), and Duvall
really nailed it. As he did that whole character throughout the mini-series.

I can't elaborate on why without getting in trouble, but by far my favorite death scene is Ronald Reagan's in The Killers (1964)
.

EDIT: You know, since I was providing no details, I didn't even think that mentioning a person who died was a spoiler. :b Sorry.

Always look on the bright side of life

Sung during the last scene of Life of Brian

And for another reason, Bruce Willis’ timely end in Armageddon is a clue that the movie may be almost over. :D

Executive Decision:Steven Seagal didn't hang around to ruin the movie.
Since I can't stand any of his movies (and I like mindless action movies)

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
Alan Rickman just kept going, and going, and going... It's a hoot!

I also liked the aforementioned Armageddon, Star Trek II, and Braveheart.

The one I felt most hurt by is Transformers: The Movie
Does this really need a spoiler tag? Killing Optimus was a huge mistake.

Terminator 2:
Death of the T-800. He was too good for this world.

The Godfather:
The death of Vito Corleone. Classic ad-libbed scene.

The Godfather Part 2:
The death of Fredo Corleone.

The Godfather Part 3:
The death of Michael Corleone. Yes, I like that movie, and that scene really hits me.

The Deer Hunter:
Chistopher Walken's suicide during a game of Russian Roulette. Very shocking.

The Return of the King:
The death of Gollum. I just know it's going to be awesome. :)

The Deer Hunter
Nick's final game of Russian Roulette.

Blade Runner
Roy's poetic speech before shutting down. BTW, was that ad-libed by Rutger?

The Perfect Storm
We all know what will become of their fates, yet I'm still compelled to watch their journey.

The Last of the Mohicans
Chingachcook breaking Magua's bones perfectly in place, so Magua is forced to "stand" and watch the person who kills him was very satisfiying.

Jacob's Ladder
To have my life flash like that before I die is chilling!

Braveheart
"Freeeeeeeeedom!" That sent chills down my spine.

Pulp Fiction
When the guy in the back of the car had his head blown off (Marvin?), I was ROTFL! Sorry, sick, I know, but it sure did spice up that quiet moment. And the brain matter in Jules' hair!

Saving Private Ryan
Private Mellish's death at the hands of the german soldier (NO, that was not "Steamboat Willie"!!) was just painful to watch. Especially when the German was "Sssssshhh..."-ing him to death.... Medic Wade's death was painful too.

Se7en
What an ingenious way to achive your final two "deadly sins".

Besides Spock in Star Trek II, I really like the way Kevin Spacey's character goes out in L.A. Confidential...

"Rollo Tomasi..."

(I think that was the name :) )
