We're drafting movies, bands, and dream guys/gals, so why not authors?

This draft will go 10 rounds, and like the other drafts will follow an alternating 1-16, 16-1 order. Fiction, non-fiction, comic book/strip writers, poets, playwrights, journalists... any type of writer is fair game. If you want to draft the guy who writes all those intensely irritating "Can you hear me now?" commercials, go right ahead.

However, I've decided that screenwriters and songwriters/lyricists are not allowed. I think it would make it too close to the movie and music drafts, and open up the field too wide. If they have a published body of work separate from their movie/music career, then they're okay. TV writers are okay.

We only need one more for 8, but I'm not sure if we can get 16. We'll see.

I'll leave it open for a while to see if we can get another 8.

For those of you who have peeked in here and decided NOT to join in, can I ask why not? Is there something about the draft that could change to make it more palatable? More restrictions, less restrictions? Fewer rounds, more rounds?

I'll give it try, although I don't read nearly as much these days.

4 more people needed! We can proceed with 12 if we have to, and just do 3-way matchups at some point. But I'd prefer 16.

Yeah, I'm worried about that, too! It should be pretty competitive, for the first few rounds at least.

Ditto that, and that's why I'm trying to make it as inclusive as possible (comic books, etc) without being too wide open.

A number of my choices are people for whom I've only read a small fraction of their work.

Dome? Brook? Evan? Bill? Elizabeth?

The "dream girls" draft generated 30 participants in under 24 hours. Sigh. Maybe I should change the thread title to "Writers With Large Breasts Draft".

Well, let's get started and hopefully we'll pick up 3 more before round 1 ends. If not, we'll just have to do some goofy brackets when voting time comes up.

My first pick is:

Kurt Vonnegut

I've read everything he's written (except God Bless You, Dr. Kevorkian) and loved all of it. My favorites: Slapstick, The Sirens of Titan, Cat's Cradle.

Eric is up next!
