Getting DTS from a Pioneer CLD-D515 (1 Viewer)

I've got Pioneer CLD-D515 Laserdisc player, it has L+R audio out and RF AC3 out but no digital out, is there anyway I can get DTS from it without expensive mods ?

You have to have a digital out in order to get DTS from Laserdisc. There is no way to get around not having a digital out that I know of other than getting a different player.

... or a coaxial input mod offcourse.

Mark, you could stille play DTS LD's because you could play the analog stereo track. I started buying DTS LD's when in my case I had no decoder. That's what I did. Best wishes from Laserland!

You're right Rachael. At first I also had the CLD-515 and this was the only way to play DTS discs. I inquired what the costs of an upgrade were and traded my player for the CLD-925 which has both AC-3 RF and optical outputs.

The only disc in my posession I think which has commentary on all analog audio tracks is Dark City. So you won't be able to normally watch the movie.

Armand, that's intresting about DARK City. If it's true, it would seem to be against the format rules or standards. I don't have DC on LD. I ended up with it on DVD. Maybe at that late date they felt like they could if they wanted to? Best wishes!

I also found it odd when playing the disc the first time. I checked it out and this is what it said on the back of
the disc:

The first box contains this text:

"Features a Running Audio Commentary by writer/director Alex Proyas, screenwriters Lem Dobbs and David S. Goyer, production designer Patrick Tatopoulos and director of photography Dariusz Wolski (Accessed on Analog Audio Track 1/Left). Also features an Additional Commentary by film critic Rogert Ebert (Accessed on Audio Track 2/Right)."

The second box on the downright contains this message:

"DTS DIGITAL SURROUND PLAYBACK REQUIRES THE USE OF A DTS DECODER. THE DISCRETE 5.1-CHANNEL SOUNDTRACK HAS BEEN ENCODED ONTO BOTH DIGITAL AUDIO TRACKS (LEFT AND RIGHT) AND WILL SOUND LIKE CONTINUOUS NOISE WITHOUT THE DTS DECODING CIRCUIT. ANALOG TRACKS LEFT AND RIGHT CONTAIN TWO DISTINCT AUDIO COMMENTARIES."

This is one of my favourit DTS sound tracks btw. If you can get your hands on it buy it. Especially low level ambiance is outstanding on the dts version.
