Try here.

Not sure if the file is standalone or the installer.

It also says you can reinstall it from your Windows XP CDs and has directions.

I'll make a quick check on an XP system in my office after I get off a conference call.

No, I know where the downloaded client is. I simply need to know the .exe of the actual file that launches the application.

Just did a quick search on my XP box and the Remote Desktop files are located in %SystemRoot%Webtsweb. It looks like CONNECT.ASP is the file that runs it. You can edit the file to suit your needs.

Hope this helps...

Also, you can create the shortcut by:

Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Terminal Services Client (Right-click on the TSC listing and select Create Shortcut), which should prompt you that it'll create it on your desktop.

Ah mstsc.exe, see, you would never guess that Remote Desktop Connection would translate to that! :D

Found it!

mstsc.exe
Micro
Soft
Terminal
Services
Connection

It was known as Terminal Services in Win2K Server prior to XP. With XP they changed the common name of the app (something more user-friendly for mass market) but left the name of the exe alone.
