Inspired by the loss of The Accidental Tourist (one of the best films of the eighties) to what is in my opinion, the merely average Coen effort O Brother, Where Art Thou? in my tourney with Vickie, I became curious as to how the Coen oeuvre would stack up against a select group of HTF favorites.
So we now have Joel & Ethan Coen vs. the HTF! :D
The tournament is now over. Go away. :)
The Coens
  1. [*]Barton Fink[*]The Big Lebowski[*]Blood Simple[*]Fargo[*]The Hudsucker Proxy[*]The Man Who Wasn't There[*]Miller's Crossing[*]O Brother, Where Art Thou?[*]Raising Arizona

HTF Favorites
  1. A Clockwork Orange - Ric Bagoly**
  2. The Godfather - Gabe D
  3. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - John Dhein
  4. Manhattan - Brian Lawrence
  5. Pulp Fiction - Cary T**
  6. Sullivan's Travels - Agee Bassett**
  7. Taxi Driver - Brook K*
  8. The Thing (1982) - Andy Olivera*
  9. The Third Man - SteveGon*

Well as we already know what happened when my favorite film Accidental Tourist went up against the Coens, I'll have to go with my #2 film of alltime "Manhattan"

The source of many of their pastiches, Sturges' brilliant Sullivan's Travels, should be as fitting an opponent as any picked in this thread. Consider it nominated. :D

I guess I'll throw out my fav, Taxi Driver
But I am a "hardcore Coen's aficionado" so you aren't likely to agree with most of my votes in this one. I'd vote 6 Coen movies over Manhattan and 5 or 6 over The Third Man. I wouldn't vote any over Sullivan's Travels, I'm an even more hardcore Preston Sturges aficionado.

5 or 6 over The Third Man said:
Okay, I'll cut ya some slack for that one. :)
Nice picks, guys! This should be an interesting tourney.
Five openings left!

I know my all-time favorite will never stand a chance against even the weakest of the Coen's. So I respond with my #2 favorite; Pulp Fiction

OK, My favorite currently is The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Let's see how the Coens do against THAT!!!

Okay, we have our list!
Before we start, a few rules:
This isn't a "best film" tourney, just vote for the film you prefer.
I'll be voting as well.
You cannot vote in the bracket in which your pick is competing.
Matchups will be selected alphabetically.
If you didn't make it into the tourney, but would like to compete, I could be persuaded to run a sequel. :) Let me know.
Be back in a few with the first matchup...

And here we go!
Can Ric's pick whip up some of the old ultra-violence on the Coens?
Round 1 - Bracket 1
Barton Fink vs. A Clockwork Orange
Excluded from voting this match: Ric Bagoly
Remember: you're voting for the film you prefer.
My vote goes to A Clockwork Orange.
A tough choice as I love the gloriously surreal BF, but I like ACO just a bit more.

There is only one Coen movie I would pick ahead of ACO. Although I really love Barton Fink, it isn't the one.

A Clockwork Orange

This implies that only the nine with noms can vote.

Regardless of any ability to vote, I agree with Brook and Agee as to Sturges vis-à-vis the Coens.

I’m in the like the brother’s films very much, but I’m not a hard-core fan (perhaps excepting Fargo). I do also love ‘O Brother’, but the nod to Sturges in this one does not mean that it’s in the same class.

And presuming that the voting is open:

A Clockwork Orange—some think that this is one of Kubrick’s best, while others think it one of his weaker efforts. Either way, it’s no contest.
