Are we sure that's how that scene played out? Over time, our memories sometimes get a little foggy when it comes to films, particularly ones that are almost 50 years old. I thought I remembered the scene as indicated by that person, but when I checked four different BD/DVD releases today, that scene was the same on all four discs in which you don't see his full face.08/27/02 VCI Entertainment DVD Release12/02/02 Paramount 90th Anniversary Region 2/4 DVD Release05/20/03 MGM Region 1 DVD Release11/03/08 Paramount Region A/B/C UK BD ReleaseAnybody else know anything more about this particular scene? Anybody have a LD or Video Tape of this film?Crawdaddy
I would like to ask everyone here about the audio on the BD and region 2 DVDs of Zulu. The audio on those releases is 2.0 Dolby surround but the region 1 DVD is only mono. Is there a difference between the 2.0 surround mixes and the mono mix? Is the surround mix original? What has happened to the original 6-track stereo mix which was presented on the Criterion Laserdisc? Has it been lost?

I can't find the article but, I don't think the film originated in 6-track or was recorded with six tracks in mind. The six tracks were maybe derived from four. I do remember the music score was recorded in mono and the sound effects and dialog were stereo. The tracks on the region 2 discs were probably done by Chace from mono.

The 35mm prints were 4 channel and the 70mm presentations were 6 channel magnetic, these tracks are now lost and maybe out there somewhere.

It opened in 1964 at the Plaza in 35mm but was shown in 1972 in 70mm at the Casino Cinerama, i have not ever
seen a 70mm print since. I saw it in the late 70s, in the Ritz although they could only show 35mm.

The audio on the current UK bluray is miles above the mono mix on the current Region 1 DVD release. I too remember the original laserdisc having stereo, but when the 'offical' DVD from MGM was released in the states, it had only a mono track. Very disappointed was an understatement.

The stereo prints might have had stereo (or mono) dialogue and stereo effects but mono music. I'm itching to get some official info on the fate of the film's audio tracks.

The info is in either this thread or another, that''s why i say the 6 track mags are lost, it was confirmed.
