No question about that George. I’d never seen the ’42 version until picking it up recently on TCM. Although I was disappointed, my memories of what it should really be like, allowed me to still see it for the great film that it is.

But I probably would downgrade it a star for the addition of the irritating narrative otherwise.

I went back and updated my list so it now goes back to 1930. I add a disclaimer that the further back the list goes, the more it is subject to change in the future, as there is a higher percentage of great films I have not seen yet.
