Best: Magnolia or anything by Kurosawa (pretty much the only blind purchase I've ever made, simply b/c I see everything else in the theaters or rentals)

Worst: Royal Tenenbaums which was still just o.k. (Rushmore was so much better IMO)

Best (and only) blind purchase: 24 Season 1. I totally love this TV series, and agree 100% with what Ronald Epstein had to say.

Best: Rififi

Worst: One Eyed Jacks. Okay, so it was really cheap, and by a no name company. I like the movie, but the DVD is absolutely atrocious.

I didn't care for TRT the first time around. Rewatched it recently and completely changed my mind - I now think it's brilliant! :)

I do LOTS of blind buys, as I've somehow gotten an aversion to renting.

Best: Das Experiment, Maelstrom, Spider

Worst: The Quiet Family (didn't like the film, and it turned out to be defective as well, starting to pixellate in the last quarter.)

Hell all I do is blind purchase. i usually get pleasently suprised 90% of the time. My best blind purchase is:

24-season 1 AND Suicide Circle

Suicide Circle because I knew nothing about it, nothing and it kicked the shit out of me.

The worst: Charlie's Angels: The movie and Tomb Raider.

I'm a huge fan of action movies with females as the stars but these 2 are HORRIBLE!

According to DVD Profiler, 71 of 163 of my current titles were blind buys, so I've got a few to pick from:

Best: Moulin Rouge, Shaolin Soccer, Yojimbo

Worst: Audition, Ali, Gosford Park

I don't do many blind purchases, but some of my best are several Kurosawa titles (you just can't go wrong) and Memento.

Hard to say what the worst was. Perhaps Daredevil (on D-Theater no less).

Only 2 for me:

Fight Club: I heard so much good stuff about the movie, I liked the directors work before (Se7en, The Game and even Alien3), plus the 2DVD set was packed

The Shining: Four Words: Stanley Kubrick, Jack Nicholson

Very happy with both. I don't think I would blindly buy many other DVDs.

Only a handful here, none of them clunkers.

Most recent: Road to Perdition. The jury is still out.

Best yet: Days of Heaven, The Iron Giant.

Best yet, according to my 3-year-old: Lilo & Stitch.

At the moment:

Best- Halloween Resurrection- I wanted to hate this movie, bought it only because I've got all the other Halloweens, but it was fairly entertaining

Worst- Jackass the Movie- Not because of the movie itself, (it was also quite entertaining, don't know what that says about me though!) but because the "movie" was actually taken from a video source at 30 FPS. This isn't how it looked in theaters.

I never used to buy movies unseen, but started doing it a while back when I couldn't find movievs to rent that I really wanted to see.

I only have one blind purchase that I sorta regret: Burnt Offerings. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't really what I expected. It would have been a better rental.

These are blind purchases that I am happy with:

The Haunting (1963)
Valley Girl
Casualties of War
Straw Dogs: Criterion
Return of the Living Dead
Insomnia (Christopher Nolan)
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Horror of Dracula (1958)
Comedy of Terrors/The Raven
The Fly/Return of the Fly
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
The Brood
Apocalypse Now Redux (I had seen the original but not Redux)
AMC MonsterFest Roger Corman Classics (looks like shit, but it was cheap and the movies are fun).
