would this work to get 7.1 from 6.1 receiver? (1 Viewer)

Hi all-
I was thinking about it last night- I have a Yamaha rx-v2200 receiver (6.1 channels) and was considering wiring two rear surrounds in series to achieve 7.1 sound. Could I instead use an additional 2 channel amplifier (like a used Rotel or similar) to avoid strainig the receiver? I would use a y-splitter to split the 6th channel at the pre-out from the receiver, route the split signal to the left and right channels of the additional amp, and power the left and right rear speakers that way. Any reason why this wouldn't work?

Thanks-
Tommy:D

Yes you could do that. At this time I am running a pair of PSB Alpha's in parallel from a vintage Sansui integrated amp for a psuedo 7.1 (The Sansui only has one working channel). ;)

Tommy, that should work just fine using a y-splitter and a 2 channel amp. Good luck.
