I get lots of free tickets.. which means I've seen lots of crap, though fortunately a bunch of this just on a test drive through DVD.

Worst:

1. "In The Mix" Yeah, I'm suprised no mention. This film is so bad, it makes you wonder who had the idea.

2. "The HoneyMooners" You know, I wonder what the heck is going on here. I love Cedric the Entertainer, but this is wrong. What is up with the remaking of old, 1950s sit-coms with African American actors in roles that make no sense during the time frame and basically stereotype the bejeesus out of them in present day?

3. Hitch. Who thought this was good? Seriously. I can see it did well at the box office, but did anyone really need this film?

4. 9 Songs. For all that people kept telling me how this would be a "great" and important film, it was basically crappy soft-core porn which was so dull that if you wondered how the actors dealt with it at all.

5. Undiscovered. Should have stayed that way.

6. Guess Who. So, you take an age old classic, a movie which had some social bite and turn it into a goofy, terribly acted film. Hmm.

7. Aeon Flux. Yeah, this was pretty terrible. Sad, I had hopes it would be good, or at least get us lots of good shots of Charlize Theron.

8. This is an unfair ranking: Duece Bigelow. I didn't watch this film. But I don't need to watch something to look at the trailer, listen to someone who did see it, and realize that it is that kind of terrible.

9. Rent. Had hopes this would be good. Wow. I've never felt less for characters in my life. Get a freaking job.

10. Elektra. Watched it on Cinemax recently. Yeah, it's as bad as it seems. The acting in this is straight out of Mortal Kombat II.

Not the worst, really, because only professional reviewers have to sit through the year's worst films. The rest of us have the option of skipping films with a high likelihood of not being worth our time. But I could barely stay awake after the first hour of Kong, and I'm just glad I used the certificate that came with The Frighteners DC disc.

KING KONG is definitely one of the very least films of 2005 I've seen, but maybe not the "worst". It's down there, though.

I havent seen enough films this year to have 10 I hate, but I will say that Mr. & Mrs. Smith will most likey top my list as the worst movie of the decade.

So far worst films of 2000-2009:

1. Mr. & Mrs. Smith
2. Napoleon Dynamite

I'm not sure what else I'd put since these 2 are the only offensively bad films I can think of (and by that, I mean ever, not just the decade).

Haven't seen Mr. and Mrs. Smith, although I will watch just about anything to see Angelina.

I absolutely loved Napoleon (Worst movie of the Decade?), guess you were expecting it to make sense or have a plot. The great thing about Dynamite was that it had no plot. Look at teens and young adults around the world. It is now a "Cult Classic".

The older I get the less stinkers I see, because I just get a sense to stay away from them. I used to see everything, now I see things that interest me.

But, my instincts did lead me astray earlier this year when we saw "The Upside of Anger." A truly awful film with a schmaltzy ending which contradicted most of the characters' choices leading up to that point. A mish mash of bad humor and overwrought drama.



Eventually you will learn to value your time more, I hope.

Just watched Dukes of Hazzard last night.

I couldn't figure out how a movie that was supposed to be a comedy could be so devoid of any laughs, in fact it was almost liked it sucked anything funny out of the air.

Then I noticed it was the same guys that came up with the Super Troopers, one of the mind numbingly unfunny movies I have ever seen, and I had my answer.

Who gives these guys money to make movies???

I'm tired of the excuse that 70s TV shows shouldn't be movies. I'm sorry, you can make a funny movie about Bewitched, DOH, Charlie Angels, just get the right people to do it.

But the Broken Lizard guys make McGee look like Hithcock by comparison.

wow, surprised that aristocrats made someone's list. that's on my best of list along with most other people's at another board i frequent.

also surprised to see so many people say mr. and mrs. smith. not that i'd expect it to be on best of lists but for a summer action movie I think it's way beyond most of the crap out there.

history of violence doesn't surprise me so much as I think it's a love it or hate it type film.

Worst movie of the year for me was probably rent. then again i'm not into musicals and only went to see it cuz my girlfriend wanted to. most disappointing movie of the year for me was the brothers grimm. it would have been bad enough if someone else had directed it but coming from terry gilliam it was damn near heartbreaking.

Come on now. If I had only seen one movie this year it would have to be my top movie and my bottom movie of the year.

Alone in the Dark
Amityville Horror

Were all very poor movies, Alone in the Dark being really on its own level out of those four. In a year with Son of the Mask and Duece Bigelow, two movies I haven't seen but are universally despised, a film like Stealth which wasn't all the great besides FX wise shouldn't be on anyones list.

Aristocrats took a great premise and ruined it with intrusive editing. Most of the joy of comedy is in watching a comic build and built on a routine until it climaxes, which is especially true for the Aristocrats joke. In the Aristocrats movie, the editing hardly ever allowed the comics to do that. In its attempt to dissect the humor of the joke, the film completely lost sight of what truly makes the joke funny. Maybe it's not one of year's worst movies, but it was certainly one of my big disappointments.

I saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith last night. I'll add that to my list.

As for Crash...

Crash is the worst kind of movie. It’s a bad film posing as a good film, a film that has even been accepted as a good film as it coasts on its own self-importance. It is smug. It is arrogant. It is contrived. It is manipulative. It thinks it is saying something profound about race, yet falls prey to the very racism it pretends to condemn. There is not a character in this film that is not a shallow, two-dimensional type; they are pawns, not people. There is not a line of dialogue containing an ounce subtlety. There is not one scene that has obviously been designed to be “clever” or “powerful” that is not, in actuality, cheap or ham-fisted. Crash is a movie not only deserving of scorn, but shame.

Needless to say, I disagree with every one of these opinions.

Just take everything negative in this post, make it positive, and that's how I felt about this tremendous, polarizing film.

Crash is a masterpiece of filmmaking.

And obviously....not for everyone.

I'm in agreement with Kyle on Crash. Nothing but mindless political correctness passing as wisdom. I have lived or worked in virtually every region of the country at some point in my life, including several which are considered to be particularly "racist" areas, met an awful lot of people and encountered a lot of ignorance, but there is more crass behavior in any 20 minute segment of Crash than I have encountered in my entire life. What I fear is that people finish watching it believing it is even remotely realistic. If it were, the entire human race would have self-destructed long ago.


Having said that...

I thought it was brilliant. And yes, the ending contradicts much of what preceeds it. That is the point.


The worst I've seen this year were from previous years.
