Hi
I have just purchased an Infocus LP420 projector but it only displays 4:3 images. Will I be able to watch widescreen movies in their original 16:9 format or will the black bars displayed at the top and bottom do damage to the projector? Also, should I try to place the projector as close as possible to the image or further away?

No, with a DLP unit there is no burn-in problems so the black bars wont cause problems.

A tube/CRT based system - could be a different story.

How far - well if you put the projector close, the image will be bright, but small. Farther back the image is larger, but dimmer. It largely depends on your room and seating conditions. Plan to play around with this setting, or read the users manual for recommended distances.
