Don't have a sound bar in the bedroom, but might try plugging into my Block Rocker for curiosity's sake.

I own both an Apple TV and the Roku 3, and enjoy both for different reasons. I rent movies through my Apple TV, because I think it looks crisper and clearer on Super HD. However, I enjoy watching movies late at night on my Roku, because of the earphone connection on the remote control. And, it's more enjoyable watching TV shows on the Roku, because it automatically plays the next show in order when watching a TV series...no having to start and stop your remote control. When it comes to serious viewing (Star Wars or LOTR), it's my Sony Blu-ray player! :)

I just hooked up my computer room HT with a Roku 3 with my Sony 40" 1080 display which gives me Roku in all three HT setups on my home. I won't do Apple in my computer room because besides the computer, I store my iPad there.

    Robert,

Perhaps I am not understanding correctly what you did.

Was this a single ROKU unit? If so, how were you able to distribute it to
three HT setups in your home?

Most likely I will be purchasing a ROKU next week, though really, I am not
even certain how much I will actually use it except for perhaps watching
    AMAZON PRIME content.

No Ron, I have a Roku Stick plug into my Oppo 103 at my main HT. I use a Roku 3 for my Bedroom HT and now I have another Roku 3 for my Computer Room HT.

I borrowed a Roku 2XS from a friend just to try the Warner Archive Instant Streaming service and it's convinced me to get one for my projector. Very impressed with HD streaming quality.

I am always wary about companies like Roku introducing their own
displays. Are you getting a quality display for the brand name? I am
certain they are partnering with a major TV manufacturer, but at the
moment, there are so many uncertainties about how good a display
    one is purchasing.

TCL and Hisense assure it will be a piece of shit (decided to spell it out for those unsure of what POS means).

Yeah, Schan, I imagine that is what it will be. Catered to the lowest common denominator.

No doubt this display will end up on Walmart and Price Club shelves.

Now, if this was Apple releasing their own television, I would be far less concerned about
it not being a display of the highest quality.

In irony...and still a POS, but with a higher pricetag...

Maybe Apple will ship its TV licensing off to Samsung. (yeah yeah, we all know I love Samsung...)

So, running the headphone jack on my remote through my Block Rocker produced passable results, but got distorted if I cranked the volume to max. To be fair, that's not the jack's intended purpose. It's great for watching movies at a lower volume on earbuds if I don't want to disturb my wife and kids (used it to watch Red State the other night for this very purpose). If I wanted to use it as a movie server, there are "channels" available for that, but its current purpose is simply to watch Netflix and other streaming services in the bedroom.

We have a Sharp Smart TV in the family room and Roku sticks in the kids rooms. Besides a few apps, there is no reason I would put a Roku on a Smart TV. Call it my OCD, but too much redundancy and an extra remote for possibly 2 decent apps. Now although the kids TVs are not Smart TVs, they were "Roku Ready" so their TV remote operates the Roku. If the Smart TV was Roku Ready, I might have considered it.

    Ron,

I just watched the 1080p presentation of "The Greatest Show on Earth" from Amazon Prime and though, it's not to the BD standard I'm used to, it looked pretty good.

Ron, you gotta check out the vudu service. The quality is amazing! You also get 5 HDX movies just for signing up!

However, the choices aren't great or extensive.

    I don't pay for streaming product...period.

    I buy too many Blu-rays.

I tried NETFLIX, but got bored with their selection after awhile.

I have AMAZON PRIME so I will look through their product as I can stream
    for free as a member.

I will sign up for VUDU just for the free movies -- if I can cancel after a trial.

Haven't hooked the ROKU up yet. Just got a replacement TV yesterday so
I have other priorities at the moment.

I will report back here as I am certain I will be looking for free programming advice.

    Thanks guys.

Keep in mind that Vudu is also Walmart's outlet for Ultraviolet, so if you use UV digital copy (which I do), this is a great way to access it on your TV.

So, I plugged in my Roku this morning.

It was great to be able to add it to my Logitech Harmony remote and actually
have every button work as it should.

Only played with it briefly. Tried streaming a movie through Amazon Prime,
    and it worked wonderfully.

I know there are hundreds of channels that could be added. One of these
days I'll look around to see what there is. Mostly interested in the best free
stuff available as I don't intend on purchasing movies online.

...but in all, I like this better than Apple TV.
