Re: Miyazaki dubs

Generally they have been very well done for a dub, Marco. I mean I am a sub fan through and through and even I was pleasantly surprised by the dub of Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. Kiki's Delivery service and others are also surprisingly watcheable (err. it should be "audible in this case" ;) )

Agreed. Almost certainly his motive was to bore half his audience to death and torture the other half, a small percentage of whom actually enjoy masochistic behavior such as watching this film. :) :) :)

And almost all of said masochists are members of this forum, who will now come in here and defend this film. :frowning:

I'd like to hear what he says about it Lew. I just rented the disc so I can't go back and check it but I was under the (false?) impression that it was dubbed so that it could play more mainstream theaters in America instead of just the art house stuff.

Plus, during the time it was released, weren't these "more serious" films of the 70s doing quite well at the box office?

While I almost always prefer the original language over dubs, last night I heard the first dub that for me is far superior to the original. Steamboy. Considering the movie takes place in England, Japanese voices took me out of it from the start. The voice actors they choose (Patrick Stewart, Anna Paquin) really make the movie much better, at least for my tastes.
