Looks like shockingly reasonable pricing for a pre-order of this kind of title. I'm waiting for the Extended release, though.

Not going to buy this film. Not now. Not going to make the same mistakes I made with The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Warner is going to milk these titles for all its worth. I suspect there will be multiple releases from standalone to extended editions and then a final box-set with all 3 films and then a box set with all 6 films. I would rather wait for the end game.

I'm inclined to support a 3D release--but ONLY a 3D release. If they aren't releasing it in 3D, forget it. Did I mention 3D? And I hope there is not an extended edition...the movie dragged at nearly 3 hours.

There will be a 3D release. Why wouldn't there be?

most of the preorders on Amazon.com with the exception of one of the Bluray versions has been taken down. All of the Evidence of the film's Bluray,DVD and 3D release including dates have been takendown from BESTBUY.com

I'm also waiting for an extended edition, although official word of that hasn't happened. There's been rumors, and even a suggestion from Jackson, but if they follow what they did with LOTR, they will announce the extended editions before the theatrical version hits DVD/blu.

I'm with Ron on this one. I'm in no rush to watch this one again,.or the upcoming sequels frankly. I'll wait however long I have to for the "Ultimate Set' with all the goodies, regardless of if it includes the original LOTR films or not.

The last preorder link has been pulled. Since I won't be seeing this any other way, an inexpensive blu would have been okay, but I suspect that initial pricing was wrong. We'll see.

I wasn't really enamored with this film when I saw it in the theater, so I will definitely be waiting. As for an extended edition, I felt the theatrical version already seemed like a long, drawn out extended edition, so I cannot image what else could be added to make it more appealing. And this is coming from someone who is a big fan of the extended editions of the LOTR trilogy.

Yeah i have'nt even seen it yet and Now I figure I'll wait for the Blu Ray and watch it on my HT. The only film I was a fan for the extended version was the first film as I thought the extra Shire scenes added alot. The other films were already so long I would not sit thru the extended again, I here the Hobbit already is 30 min too long so do we really need an extended version? But I agree don't double dip

I'll probably end up buying the extended edition for the same reason I bought the extended LORD OF THE RINGS releases - not for the movies themselves (ain't nobody got time for that), but for the supplementary material that I'm sure will be awesome.

Weird, I've sat through and enjoyed the Extended editions numerous times. I consider them the only version worth viewing for LOTR. I hope everyone nixing them due to length aren't wasting their time watching dumb 3 hour long football/sports games that are 40% advertising. :P

I really, really wanted to enjoy this film, but at 3 hours, it was already too long and rather pointless. I can't imagine that an EE would improve on it. The film should look and sound stellar on Blu-Ray, though.

You're either a fan or your just a casual viewer. For a fan there is no such thing as a LOTR or Hobbit movie that is too long. That said: Bring on The inevitable extended version of The Hobbit and of the Hobbit parts 2 and 3 extended when they are released.:tu::rock: And The sports game comparison is an excellent point. Same thing: Never too long for fans, Too long for casual viewers.

I'm not all that knowledgable of The Hobbit/LOTR but has Peter Jackson actually confirmed that there will be extended versions of The Hobbit movies? It certainly seems like a safe bet that there will be but just to play devil's advocate, maybe going from two to three movies has removed Jackson's need for extended versions.
