    SYNOPSIS

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts only to discover that much of the wizarding community has been led to believe that the story of the teenager’s recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort is a lie, putting Harry’s integrity in question. Worse, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, has appointed a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, the duplicitous Professor Dolores Umbridge. But Professor Umbridge’s “Ministry-approved” course of defensive magic leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared to defend themselves against the Dark Forces threatening them, so at the prompting of his friends Hermione and Ron, Harry is convinced to take matters into his own hands. Meeting secretly with a small group of students who name themselves “Dumbledore’s Army,” Harry teaches them how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts, preparing the courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that lies ahead.

HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE

“A triumph of visual wonder and emotional storytelling”

    Peter Travers, ROLLING STONE

    “witty, spectacular and...spellbinding”

    Claudia Puig, USA TODAY

From celebrated director David Yates (BBC’s State of Play, Harry Potter series Years 5-7), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince brings back the highly-acclaimed cast including Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter series, December Boys), Rupert Grint (Harry Potter series, Driving Lessons) and Emma Watson (Harry Potter series, The Tale of Despereaux) as well as two-time Academy Award® Winner Maggie Smith (Gosford Park, A Room With A View, Harry Potter series), Academy Award® Nominee Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech, Alice in Wonderland, Terminator Salvation, Harry Potter series), Alan Rickman Alice in Wonderland, Love Actually, Harry Potter film series) and Michael Gambon (The King’s Speech, The Book of Eli, The Good Shepherd, Harry Potter series). Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince also introduces Academy Award®-winner Jim Broadbent (Iris, The Young Victoria, Inkheart, Moulin Rouge! Harry Potter series) as Professor Horace Slughorn.

    SYNOPSIS

Emboldened by the return of Lord Voldemort, the Death Eaters are wreaking havoc in both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that new dangers may lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. He needs Harry to help him uncover a vital key to unlocking Voldemort's defenses--critical information known only to Hogwarts' former Potions Professor, Horace Slughorn. With that in mind, Dumbledore manipulates his old colleague into returning to his previous post with promises of more money, a bigger office...and the chance to teach the famous Harry Potter.

Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry's long friendship with Ginny Weasley is growing into something deeper, but standing in the way is Ginny's boyfriend, Dean Thomas, not to mention her big brother Ron. But Ron's got romantic entanglements of his own to worry about, with Lavender Brown lavishing her affections on him, leaving Hermione simmering with jealousy yet determined not to show her feelings. And then a box of love potion-laced chocolates ends up in the wrong hands and changes everything.

As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof with far more important matters on his mind. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

I think I'll wait until the series has concluded and Warners releases the inevitable Ultimate-ultimate edition box set of the entire series. This has to be the most re-dipped franchise in the Warner catalog, possibly the most re-dipped franchise in any catalog. I don't think even the Evil Dead movies have been repackaged this many times.

Seriously... NO extended cuts for either of these releases? So much shot but not in the theatrical releases, so much footage that would make these more faithful to the books... and easier to follow the storyline, for that matter. What exactly is "ultimate" about these releases? Google about extra scenes (I think Order of the Phoenix had a three-hour cut initially, but was considered "too long" for a summer blockbuster release)--you'll be astounded by what Warners is charging a premium price for compared to what they're actually giving us...

So disappointed, but I shouldn't be surprised after the Ultimate sets for 3 and 4.

Me too. Was hoping for a more LOTR treatment since the books are so dense. Sigh. Maybe that'll be the NEXT set of releases after the UE's.

Plus, it's annoying that Deathly Hallows Pt 1 is not coming out in a UE right away. It's one thing for films that were already released, another to expect a double dip about 6 months apart. No thanks.

As far as I can recall, there have only been two releases of each of the Harry Potter films--the initial release, followed by these "Ultimate Editions." The earlier films were re-released on Blu-ray after having already been available on DVD, of course, and they've been releasing a new box set bundling all the films together after each new movie, but the discs in those sets are still the same ones that have always been available, aren't they?

A double-dip for each movie doesn't seem that bad to me. What am I missing?

*Sigh* Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is easily my least favorite of the Harry Potter films, and I'd convinced myself that I'd be just fine with sticking to my DVD copy. But I'm loving the 7-part documentary for the Ultimate Editions, so I'll probably have to pick it up just for that.

I don't know about the sixth one, but there actually wasn't much extra shot for OOTP. All of the most savage cuts were made at the script stage, before the start of filming. It's too bad, too, because that's the film that could most use an extended cut.

But I'm loving the 7-part documentary for the Ultimate Editions, so I'll probably have to pick it up just for that. This is why I'm not waiting until a boxset is released with essentially the same content. This 8-Part documentary is absolutely fantastic. I actually can't wait to have all eight films and watch this long documentary in one setting because they're hitting on the essential aspects of this franchise. I've been most looking forward to the "Evolution of Harry Potter" doc that comes with Phoenix. I hope it's as interesting as it sounds.... I'm sure for the 20th Anniversary of Year 1, WB will release a box set that contains all the films in their extended form but I just don't see the point of waiting for one box set that's going to have the same content....unless that box set was significantly smaller, yet contained everything that we're getting now...

I'm sorry but I have to say, "Who cares and what a waste of time"! When can we get the Harry Potter Extended Versions on Blu-ray? We all have it on DVD, then Blu-ray, then Ultimate Edition... do they then expect us to buy them all over again with the Extended versions? These film company's really do take the piss!

The Ultimate Editions of the first two films did contain extended editions. The directors of the third and fourth films were asked, but declined to prepare extended editions for their Ultimate Editions, as they were happy with the theatrical versions. I don't know for sure, but I would guess the same is true for the fifth and sixth films, too. There's certainly no reason to think Warner is holding back extended editions specifically to double-dip them later, especially given that they didn't do so for the first two.

Consider David Yates is the director of these two films and Deathly Hallows 1 & 2, I would be surprised if they didn't get his feedback on whether he wanted different cuts.

Exactly, although I have to wonder if he simply didn't have time to prepare extended cuts of OOP and HBP because he's been busy finishing up "Deathly Hallows".

And since "Deathly Hallows" is ALREADY an extended cut, so to speak, I hope no one is expecting even longer versions of the last 2 films.

    I disagree.

With the first two films, the Ultimate Editions were the 3rd release of the movies IIRC. DVD, BR, and UE. They had to find some way of making people want to buy them, and "The exact same movies but now with the first 2 hours of an 8 hour documentary!" was going to kill the idea before it started. For the second two, they could just pray on the "Well, it doesn't look right on the shelf" mentality.

Regardless, they won't skip a chance to dip again. They'll release extended ultimate editions at some point. Honestly, how long did they sit on extended editions of the first two?

So like years 3 and 4, I'm passing. I'm not that big into documentaries, and the set doesn't offer me anything that I don't already have. I'll hold out for the next dip.

Time to get real about these extended cut.

when Warners released films one and two in extended editions, all they did was put the already released extra scenes in their proper place.

I doubt they consulted the directors at all, as usualy the producers (David Heyman and Warner Bros.) have the right of final cut.

Would they care what Alfonso Cuaron thought about film number 3? I don't think so.

Wanres could put the cut scenes easily back in thier place without anyones permission

Frankly, Half Blood Prince needs all the help it could get. David Yates made an absolute mess of that film, leaving out so much important stuff from the books, and ADDING scenes it didn't need. Andapparently shooting that film and Deathly Hallows One during an eclipse of the sun.- EVERYTHNING is so damn dark all the time.

Strange... I have the first Ultimate Edition and there are no extended scenes in the film? It is the theatrical version? The exteneded (or deleted) scenes are on the special features section/disc. Therefore I did not buy any others and felt like putting it straight onto eBay!

If that were the case Joe, why didn't they do the same with films 3 and 4? Why did they leave the extra scenes as extras on those editions?

From everything I've read, Columbus wanted to have these longer films released initially, but was contractually obligated as to running time.

Sorry... I made a mistake with my last comment. I have the Collectors Edition, Not the Ultimate Edition. Proves my point though, how many copies of one film can you buy? NOT going to pay 3 times the price for an extended cut of the film though!
