I think version 7 of Power DVD supported HD DVD.

I did Red2Blu a couple months ago trading 25 of my WB titles to BR.

I still have my 20 Universal HDDVDs. And I have the A1 as well.

I haven't been able to find the Red2Blu web page, it defaults to the DVD2Blu offer....

I have an HD-A30 that I still use for up scaling DVDs and for playing HD DVDs. It skips occasionally, but not enough to get worried about. I still have about 50 titles.

I have every major US HD-DVD title, only missing Twister and a few independent studio, porn and music titles. Warner HD-DVDs had an EXTREMELY high defect or rot rate, which I didn't find out until after I was done collecting! I went through about 5 copies of Superman before I got one that played with no issues, I had to replace about 12 other titles as well. (Still haven't watched everything, but I ran all the Warner discs on my A2 which will display an error message if it can't get through the movie.) Still trying to find defect-free copies of Pat Metheny's The Way Up, One Last Thing and Enron: Smartest Guys in the Room. These were made by Cinram, the same manufacturer Warner used. Most of the other studios used Technicolor, which had far fewer problems.
My main player is an A-30, I have 2 spare A3's which I can transplant the drives from should the one in the A30 go bad.

Sounds like my issues with Superman The Motion Picture will not be going away with a newer and better Toshiba HD-DVD player. Also sounds like my HD-DVD of the first Superman movies will get tossed sometime soon. Time to replace it with a Bluray disc!

I do not however like the fact that the stand alone version of Superman The Movie is in Dolby Digital so it looks like I will be picking up the entire anthology for Superman to get the DTS-HD MA lossless audio track. Just not looking forward to having 3 copies of Superman Returns, will have to sell off the HD-DVD and Bluray I currently have.
I am using a Toshiba HD-A1 and am waiting for a Toshiba HD-XA2 to arrive to take the place of the HD-A1

Hi,
I have managed to collect some 130+ HD DVD's and to cover my deriere I have purchased two HD DVD players from 'online' which are both HD-E1 models...(although one has given up playing by HDMI it still allows HD at 720p viewing through component leads....still great for smaller HDTV's), the other still plays via HDMI.
I have backed this up by purchasing two X-box 360 HD-DVD players, just in case there is the need to utilize these to view the HD DVD's from my collection. All players are upscaling for DVD's.
I have also gone Bluray through the Sony PS3 and this allows 3D viewing through software upgrade.
Here is the strange thing .....through the power of ebay I have recently gone true retro as well by purchasing two Pioneer Laserdisc players (CLD-D925 and CLD-2095 model players) and some 80+ laserdiscs to enjoy the unsurpressed sound experience of laserdisc movies.
It is amazing what one can acquire with some homework , patience and tactical bidding on the appropriate shopping network and other similar websites.
It is rewarding to experience the quality of the products that were released on 12" laserdisc format and to obtain the benefit of the High Definition viewing of HD-DVD's...(which I believe have a very slight edge in HD clarity, depth and colour over Bluray)...IMO.
This latter collection of visual hardware and software maybe out dated or becoming obsolete (especially in UK) but it is surprising how people are returning to older visual and audio formats of entertainment and how the cost of said eqiupment is rising due to it's restricted availability and incresing demand.
My advise ......keep your old HD-DVD's and HD-DVD player(s), because they may become tomorrows treasures.
BTW if your gonna dump these discs and players why not drop by and use my rubbish bin / garbage can.......or better still try your local charity shop.

I just received my HD-XA2 that I purchased on Ebay this past Friday from San Diego, CA. The HD-A1 will be put in storage in case the HD-XA2 fails. Waiting for my Audio Quest Cinnamon HDMI cable to arrive so I can take the current HDMI cable off the Denon DBP-1611 UD Bluray Player and use it on the Toshiba HD-XA2 HD-DVD. The player didn't have a remote but it is good that the old remote for the HD-A1 works for the newer HD-DVD player. The player came with 8 movies so now I own 74 HD-DVD titles! Will be keeping all the movies but I think I will replace the Superman movies only if I can get them in lossless audio.

During the last few days I have watched Swordfish and Pulse on HD-DVD on the new HD-XA2. Since it is using firmware 1.7 I need to find a way to upgrade the machine to ver 4.0. The dvd-r didn't work so I will try to come up with a cd-r or just wait to pick up some cat5 cable and a 4 port switch. Then I will update the firmware and see if I can get the player to bitstream Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby True HD to my Pioneer Elite SC-05 receiver.

I have the Toshiba HD-XA-2. I use it primarily for watching DVDs, but occasionally I use it to watch an HD-DVD. So far the only HD-DVD which has caused me a problem is FORBIDDEN PLANET, which froze up. I have since replaced it with the Blu-ray.

Hey Richard does your HD-XA2 bitstream Dolby Digital Plus and or Dolby True HD to your receiver or is it being decoded in the player due to the lack of bitstream ? I recently hooked up the player to the internet and it has firmware 1.7 and it came back and told me that was the most recent firmware even though I have see the last firmware was 4.0. :f
Very disappointed that this player is not bitstreaming Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby True HD!

I am still using my HD DVD player. It works jusk fine. Tonight I watched King Kong on one of my many HD DVD's. As I just stated, I have lots of HD DVD movies and plan to watch them all in the near future. I also own a Blueray player but prefer HD DVD's. The movies I play on my HD DVD player are much sharper than the onces I Play on my Samsung 3D Blueray Player.
I don't know what the life expectancy of an HD DVD player is, but I plan on keeping mine forever. It's a great system. And unlike yours, mine works very well. My Toshiba HD DVD player is so much better than my last three Blueray Players put together. I love HD DVD!

The last firmware update was 4.0. Since the future of HD-DVD was unknown at the time, I opted for them to send me a CD of the update. I would be surprised if there is internet support for these players. I'm sure the servers that housed the updates are now offline.

I sometimes use the player for the movies I have. As Jennifer said, the picture is quite sharp and does seem to be better with certain titles. However, I experience alot of problems with combo discs freezing so those discs don't get airplay and consequently, the player does not get used that often.
