Forgot to mention.
todd ao Oklahoma was shot at 30. f.p.s. for less flicker.
Ironically, the filmsometimes had more flcker, because one oftheTodd AO cameras had a defective shutter,
Home vid companies have gone crazy to get that flicker out of the film.
Most noticeableduring the Kansas City number when Will Parker is dancing and twirling his rope.. On this i new transfer, the flicker is completely gone - a first in my experience.

King and I - not sure what to make of this. Sarting with the scene where Anna is unpacking her clothes and sings Hello,Young Lovers, it looks as if it has been dipped in blue.
A similar 1950's DeLuxe Color look like we've seen in the blu-rays of DESK SET and BUS STOP or something else?

Something else, its gets so heavy at times it makes the picture loose sharpness.

Early on, we were told here that Oklahoma was to include a new one hour doc about either the making of the film, the restoration, or both.
there is nothing new.

Just went through the set.

Some thoughts (some controversial).
State Fair - looks and sounds good.
Oklahoma Todd AO What a massive improvement
Only odd thing is that beginning with the dvd era, alltransfers inlduing both new ones here, get the opening of Act Two wrong. It is supposed to be day for night. Not completely night but dusk, including the carriage charging along a train. the train has its bright front light on, and the passage car is completely lit inside. Now every dvd transfer has it aa a straight day scen. Looks almost like high noon from the shadows.

Carousel, looks like its transferred a bit dark.
King and I - not sure what to make of this. Sarting with the scene where Anna is unpacking her clothes and sings Hello,Young Lovers, it looks as if it has been dipped in blue.
The music only track has the songs minus vocals, except for We Kiss in a Shadow which has the vocals up till Moreno enters and it sounds like Ritas voice, BEFORE she got duebbed in the film.
South Pacific - just the old blu set - everything is there.
Sound of music, same old Blu ray which I do not loke because -
A. the sound is not as good as it should be
B. The color is wrong. Both Julie Andrews and some of the kids had their hair died blonde for this film -- but it never looks blonde, looks more like dark red through the entire film.
I've only looked at 'The King and I' so far. The "dipped in blue" look starts happening in certain scenes before the one you mention. When Anna is being escorted to the palace (after leaving the ship), her dress (which I believe is supposed to be grey or grey-blue) looks quite blue. Or, just look at her white gloves.. they are downright BLUE during part of that escort to the palace.

I have no idea if it was this way on the original negative, but the amount of blue added in some of the scenes is so significant it's actually distracting. And I've only watched a small portion of the beginning.

Thanks Mark. Glad to see Fox stayed away from those nasty cardboard sleeves on this one.

I have the SoM "Big Box O' Stuff", so I will just keep my original discs in the case that came with that. I'll give the SoM disc from the new set to a friend, and drop the 1962 State Fair disc in its place.

Now that's a good idea. Thanks.

Sadly, I started doing comparisons to old discs.
Carousel is way too dark.

King and I blu ray looks worse and worse. I thought the old dvd was perfect picture and sound. this new picture has really got something wrong.

Let the controversy begin as this ought to be one hell of a PQ debate.

The controversy will have to wait a short time ...
I got the 'it's shipped' news overnight (what a relief!) but being down here in Australia, est. arrival is May 9.
You'll have seen everything by then!
If Carousel is too dark I'll be really upset. But the Todd-AO Oklahoma sounds great!

I don't think the exterior trim around the palace door is supposed to have a blue tint. Nor the poles in the hut construction in the background in the other photos.

Clearly, her dress is supposed to be grey and her gloves white.

Beyond the excessive blue tint/color, there's much to like in the image. I don't own the DVD so I'd be interested in hearing some comparisons.

Robert (Harris), is that the way it originally looked on those exterior shots? I'm trying to tell myself I wouldn't have noticed without Joe bringing it up, but, MAN, are some of those scenes blue!

Mine is coming tomorrow. I will have something to say about it.

EDIT: I just looked at the screenshots. I saw a restored 35mm print eight years ago; it looked NOTHING like that. It looks colorized.

You sure "King and I" just doesn't have that 'teal' hue which is quite common for CinemaScope, Deluxe-processed titles from the period?

I just received a text notification that mine will arrive by 8:00pm tomorrow, 4.29, and, yes, I expect some very interesting and lively conversations on this forum over the next few weeks and months ahead.

Looking at screen shots on an iPhone 5s. I think I'll wait for the disc to spin on my DLP big screen.
